When music echoes within the ancient walls
The Festival du Château de Talmont invites music lovers every spring to the heart of the medieval fortress of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire in Vendée. Created in 2023 by the municipality, this artistic event celebrates a different art form each year through evenings of concerts and live performances in an exceptional heritage setting. Classical music, jazz, gospel, opera, and French chanson follow one another at the foot of the ramparts of the castle founded by Richard the Lionheart, offering a unique cultural experience between heritage and creation.
Born in 2023 on the initiative of the town of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, the Festival du Château is a cultural event that makes music and live arts resonate within the walls of the medieval fortress of Talmont. Each year, the festival highlights a different art form and offers artistic encounters within an exceptional heritage site, classified as a historic monument.
The Château de Talmont, founded in the 11th century and closely linked to the history of Richard the Lionheart, overlooks the town from its imposing ramparts. Perched on its rocky promontory, it offers a remarkable panorama of the Vendée coast and the hinterland. It is in this grandiose setting, between medieval towers and centuries-old curtain walls, that the festival's concerts and shows take place, creating an intimate atmosphere steeped in history.
The first edition, dedicated to music, brought together artists from various backgrounds over three evenings: the jazz-rock of Haylen, the Mozart Requiem performed by a choir and orchestra of 80 musicians conducted by Erwin List, the vibrant gospel of Gospel For You Family, the a cappella harmonies of the Famille Lefèvre (winners of La France a un incroyable talent 2020), the French folk-chanson of Rêveries Musicales, and the lyrical voice of tenor Florian Laconi.
Organized by the municipality of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, the Festival du Château is part of an ambitious cultural policy that aims to promote local heritage while making culture accessible to the greatest number. The festival benefits from on-site catering and PMR accessibility with a free golf cart service, demonstrating particular attention to welcoming all audiences.
The Festival du Château de Talmont returns in 2026 for a fourth edition within the walls of the medieval fortress of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire. A new art form will be highlighted with unprecedented artistic encounters.
