Culture Bar-Bars: When La Roche-sur-Yon's Cafés Become Stages

Born in 2003 on the initiative of the Collectif Culture Bar-Bars, a national federation of café-cultures comprising over 500 establishments, the Festival Culture Bar-Bars has become the second-largest national cultural event after the Fête de la Musique. Every year, on the last weekend of November, nearly 70 French cities simultaneously participate in this celebration of bars, bistros, and concert cafés as cultural hubs.

La Roche-sur-Yon at the Heart of the Festival

In La Roche-sur-Yon, the festival takes place in the city's iconic bars, notably the Bar des Artistes, a true institution in the heart of La Roche-sur-Yon, nestled between Place Napoléon and the Halles district. Other establishments in the Vendée prefecture also open their doors to host artists from all backgrounds, transforming the city center into an open-air musical trail.

An Eclectic and Free Program

The strength of the Festival Culture Bar-Bars lies in the diversity of its programming. Rock, jazz, hip-hop, slam, French chanson, world music, electro: all styles mingle throughout the evenings. Beyond music, the festival also offers live performances, improv theater, art exhibitions, and performances. Admission is completely free, in line with the collective's philosophy of defending access to culture for all.
