The marathon between land and sea on the Atlantic coast
Created in 1991, the La Rochelle Serge Vigot Marathon is the second largest marathon in France in terms of participation. Every late November, it attracts thousands of runners who come to cover a flat and fast course between the Old Port and the Atlantic coast.
The route consists of two 21 km loops starting from the quays and the Old Port of La Rochelle. It passes through the city's emblematic sites: the Old Port, the Towers, urban parks, and the intra-muros city, before running along the sea. The almost flat and very fast profile of the course makes it ideal for personal bests.
The event offers several races: the individual marathon (42.195 km), the duo marathon (two-person relay over the two loops), the 10 km, the Corporate Challenge (four-runner relay), para-sport events, and the Chauffe-Gambettes (a festive 4 km fun run with free access). The festive atmosphere and the support of the La Rochelle public make the event renowned.
The 35th edition of the La Rochelle Serge Vigot Marathon takes place on Sunday, November 29, 2026. The second most attended marathon in France, it offers a flat and fast course between land and sea, as well as several race formats (marathon, 10 km, duo, Corporate Challenge, para-sports).
For its festive 35th edition, the La Rochelle Serge Vigot Marathon returns on Sunday, November 29, 2026. The race continues to attract thousands of runners to its mythical course: two 21 km loops starting from the quays and the Vieux-Port, a flat and very fast route that runs along the sea and passes through the historic monuments of La Rochelle.
