About Villages en Scène
Villages en Scène brings performing arts to the towns and villages of the Loire Layon Aubance area in Anjou. From theatre and music to circus, dance and participatory projects, performances take place both indoors and outdoors, bringing culture directly to the local community. Launched in 2001 by the Pays du Layon cultural commission to showcase emerging companies, the project is now managed by the Communauté de communes Loire Layon Aubance, which established it as a public institution in 2018. Every season, from September to June, dozens of performances connect the local villages with a fresh and varied programme.
Villages en Scène — edition 2026
The 2026-2027 season marks the 25th anniversary of Villages en Scène, running from September 2026 to June 2027, with performances held across the various towns of the Loire Layon Aubance region. Among the first events announced is "Mon Côté Monk" by Cie Ostéorock on October 2, 2026, in La Possonnière, a portrait of jazz pianist Thelonious Monk told through words, drawings, and music.

- Mon Côté Monk · Cie Ostéorock · La Possonnière — A biographical narrative featuring words, drawings, and music centered on jazz pianist Thelonious Monk, performed by Jean-Michel Noël (piano, writing, drawings) and Freddy Pohardy-Riteau (saxophone). Suitable for ages 10 and up, duration 50 minutes, category C pricing.
The full 2026-2027 program (the 25th season, running from September 2026 to June 2027) has not yet been released in detail by the organizers; it will be added as soon as it becomes available.

Performances are held in various towns across the Loire Layon Aubance territory (Maine-et-Loire), either in village halls or outdoors depending on the show. The specific venue for each performance is listed in the programme.
A regional project born in 2001
Villages en Scène was founded in 2001 by the Pays du Layon cultural commission with the aim of promoting young talent and hosting contemporary works. The inaugural season attracted over 2,000 spectators and 70 subscribers. The project was initially managed by an association, the Comité d'Expansion Layon Lys Aubance (which became Loire en Layon Développement in 2008), before being taken over in 2018 by the Communauté de communes Loire Layon Aubance, which transformed it into a public administrative institution.
A season that travels across the region
The core concept has remained unchanged since the beginning: bringing live performances to the towns and villages of the Loire Layon Aubance area—whether in halls or open-air settings—rather than concentrating events in a single location. Theatre, circus, dance, music and participatory shows travel from one village to another, complemented by workshops and artist meet-and-greets. Since its inception, over 500 theatre, circus, dance and music companies have performed at Villages en Scène, drawing a total audience of more than 100,000 people.
