Les Trois Chaises Festival: Music at the Heart of an Exceptional Village

Since 2015, the Les Trois Chaises Festival has transformed the village of Allègre into an open-air musical jewel every first weekend of August. Nestled at 1,050 meters above sea level in the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park, at the foot of the famous Potence — remnants of the old medieval castle — and the remarkable **Mont Bar** volcano, Allègre offers an exceptional natural and heritage setting to welcome artists and music lovers.

An Eclectic and Demanding Program

The festival aims to promote voices and instruments in rural areas and make them accessible to all audiences. True to this philosophy, the program is not confined to any single musical genre: classical music, chamber music, opera, gypsy jazz, Balkan music, nuevo tango, jazz, Latin American music, and songs are featured throughout the concerts. From intimate recitals to chamber ensembles, from Bach to Piazzolla, each edition strives for excellence in artist selection while fostering conviviality and closeness with the audience.

Concert Venues Steeped in History

The performances take place in three emblematic sites of the region. The Saint-Martin d'Allègre church, a Romanesque and Gothic building in the heart of the village, hosts the Friday and Saturday evening concerts with remarkable acoustics. The Place du Marchédial, in the center of the medieval town, serves as the setting for the free open-air morning concerts on Saturday and Sunday, offering a relaxed musical moment. Finally, the Château de La Borie, in Céaux-d'Allègre, a 15th-century noble residence nestled in greenery, hosts the closing concert on Sunday evening followed by a dinner buffet, combining music, heritage, and gastronomy.

A Festival Rooted in its Territory

Driven by a team of passionate volunteers, the Les Trois Chaises Festival is fully integrated into the cultural life of the Haute-Loire region and the Livradois-Forez. By offering five concerts over three days, including some free access events, the festival contributes to the summer animation of Allègre and enhances the reputation of this village of character, listed among the most picturesque in Auvergne. Booking is highly recommended for evening concerts, as the growing attendance testifies to the success of this event, which has become a must-attend for lovers of quality rural music.
