Artisanal Excellence in a Renaissance Castle
Every year in April, the Château de Gaillon hosts the European Days of Artistic Crafts (JEMA), a national and European event celebrating artisanal know-how. In partnership with AMAVE (Association of Artistic Crafts of the Eure Valley) and the Fabrique des Métiers d'Art, the fair brings together about twenty excellent artisans in the halls of the first Renaissance castle in France.
Exceptional Know-How
The fair highlights the diversity of French artistic crafts through a wide range of disciplines. Visitors discover the work of stone carvers, metal sculptors, ceramists, embroiderers, glassmakers, calligraphers, illuminators, restorers of antique objects, blacksmiths, broom makers, leather workers, feather workers, and crystal makers. Each artisan offers demonstrations of their skills and interactions with the public.
Encounters and Discoveries
Beyond the demonstrations, the JEMA in Gaillon offers guided tours of the castle, allowing visitors to understand the history of this ancient monument and the heritage restoration techniques used. Workshops for children introduce the younger ones to the artisans' gestures, while Renaissance dance performances immerse the audience in the atmosphere of Cardinal d'Amboise's court.
Normandy in the Spotlight
The edition at the Château de Gaillon particularly highlights Norman artisans and the know-how of the Normandy region. The event offers a unique immersion into the world of artistic crafts, allowing the public to understand creation processes, appreciate the quality of manual work, and support local craftsmanship by acquiring unique pieces.
