Founded in 2006 by the association La Maumission, the Ô Mauvais Buisson festival was born from the desire of a group of young people from Maumusson to create a unifying musical event in this rural town in Loire-Atlantique, located between Nantes and Angers, in the Pays d'Ancenis. What began as a modest local initiative has transformed into a must-attend event for contemporary music in rural areas, attracting around 3,400 festival-goers each year to the esplanade of the plan d'eau de la Fontaine aux Merles.
The strength of Ô Mauvais Buisson lies in its ability to offer a varied and unifying program, mixing renowned artists and discoveries. Over its editions, the festival has hosted diverse names such as Les Wampas, Ultra Vomit, Tagada Jones, La Rue Kétanou, Sinsemilia, Danakil, Youssoupha, Les Fatals Picards, Hilight Tribe, Manau, Yanis Odua, 47 Ter, Elephanz, Merzhin, Strollad, and Les Ramoneurs de Menhirs. This mix of genres — rock, punk, reggae, French chanson, electro, hip-hop, Celtic music — reflects the festival's open and popular spirit.
Ô Mauvais Buisson is a 100% non-profit and volunteer-run festival. Over 250 volunteers from Maumusson and surrounding towns mobilize each year to bring the event to life, from site preparation to catering, security, and reception. This intergenerational and community dimension gives the festival a warm atmosphere that sets it apart from larger events. The festival uses an internal currency, the "buisson" (1 buisson = €1.25), and distributes reusable Ecocup glasses to each festival-goer.
The festival takes place on the esplanade of the Fontaine aux Merles, an open-air space located by the communal lake of Maumusson, in a green and bucolic setting. The site offers free camping and parking for festival-goers with tickets. Catering and bar areas complete the on-site offerings. A team of first-aiders from the Croix-Blanche and the association Alcool Assistance ensure health and safety prevention throughout the event.
