Candlelit concerts in the most beautiful sacred buildings of Lyon
The Sacrée Musique Festival transforms the chapels, churches, and cathedrals of Lyon and its region into ephemeral concert halls illuminated by thousands of candles. For ten days in May, exceptional choirs perform sacred music, gospel, Corsican polyphony, Gregorian chants, and baroque music in historic heritage sites. A unique sensory experience where the light of the flames and the beauty of the voices respond to each other to create unforgettable moments.
Created in 2020 in the Var region, the Sacrée Musique Festival conquered Lyon in 2024 with an enchanting concept: sacred music concerts in the most beautiful religious buildings, lit by thousands of candles. The alliance of the flickering light of the flames, the natural acoustics of the vaults, and the power of the voices creates a unique sensory experience that has already captivated over 80,000 spectators across France.
The festival brings together repertoires and traditions: Corsican polyphony by the Chœur de Sartène, Gregorian chants, vibrant gospel, baroque music by the ensemble Doulce Mémoire, a cappella chants by the ensemble Dulci Jubilo, Eastern chants by the Lebanese Chœur Philokalia, and even sacred jazz with L'Autre Big Band. This diversity reflects the universal richness of sacred music and allows each spectator to find the emotion that touches them.
The Sacrée Musique Festival takes over the most beautiful religious buildings in Lyon and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region: the Église de la Rédemption in the 6th arrondissement, the Cathédrale Saint-Jean, historic chapels, and collegiate churches in the area. In 2025, over 50 candlelit concerts are scheduled throughout the region, from Lyon to Roanne, from Villefranche-sur-Saône to Jonage.
Sponsored by Stéphane Bern, a fervent defender of French heritage, the festival is based on four pillars: music, light, solidarity, and heritage. Each edition is accompanied by cultural outreach activities carried out in partnership with local associations. After the success of its first Lyon edition in 2024, the Sacrée Musique Festival has established itself as an unmissable event of the metropolis's cultural spring.
