Printemps du Numérique: When Libraries Become Digital Creation Labs

Printemps du Numérique is a unique festival, driven by the Bibliothèque municipale de Lyon and the Pôle Métropole of the metropolitan library network. Since its creation in the early 2010s, this biennial event transforms Lyon's libraries into true digital creation laboratories, open to all audiences.

Exploring Digital Creation in All Its Forms

The ambition of Printemps du Numérique is to show that every creative gesture counts, that imagination and collaboration are powerful forces, and that digital tools can become playgrounds for everyone. The festival offers a wide range of activities:

  • 3D modeling and volume printing
  • Video game creation and game design
  • Sound creation and computer-assisted music
  • Video and animation (stop-motion, motion design)
  • Connected textile creation and digital embroidery
  • Digital poetry and interactive writing
  • Creative tinkering and digital fabrication
  • Artificial intelligence applied to creation

A Network of Mobilized Libraries

The festival unfolds across all 16 municipal libraries in Lyon and partner libraries in the Métropole. Digital mediators in each establishment design and lead workshops adapted to all levels, from the curious novice to the experienced creator. This network dimension makes Printemps du Numérique a unique event, rooted in the neighborhoods and accessible to all.

A Convivial Highlight

Each edition culminates in a highlight event bringing together all participants and festival stakeholders in an emblematic library. Participatory workshops, free-access games, presentation of collective works, and a friendly buffet mark this festive day, which celebrates creation and sharing.

Artists in Residence

Printemps du Numérique regularly invites digital artists in residence to support workshops and create participatory works with the public. These artistic collaborations give rise to interactive installations, exhibitions, and collective creations that testify to the richness of exchanges between artists, mediators, and participants.

Making Digital Technology Accessible to All

The festival pays particular attention to accessibility. Workshops are open to all ages and levels, with personalized mediation for people with disabilities. Registration is free for all activities, in line with the public service mission of libraries. Printemps du Numérique thus embodies the conviction that digital culture is a common good, built and shared in local spaces.

Printemps du Numérique — edition 2026

Printemps du Numérique 2026 will take place from April 18 to 30 in all libraries of Lyon and the Métropole, with a highlight event on April 25 at Bibliothèque Lacassagne. The festival will explore digital creation in all its forms.

2026 Edition - Digital Creation for All

Printemps du Numérique 2026 will take over the libraries of Lyon and the Métropole from April 18 to 30, 2026. This edition aims to explore creation in all its digital forms, with the ambition of showing that every creative gesture counts and that digital tools are accessible playgrounds for everyone.

Highlight Event

On Wednesday, April 25, the Bibliothèque Lacassagne (Lyon 3rd arrondissement) will host the festival's highlight event: participatory workshops, free-access games, presentation of collective works, and a friendly buffet.

A wide range of activities will be offered: 3D modeling, video games, sound creation, video, textile creation, digital poetry, creative tinkering, and much more.
