Digital creation accessible to all in Lyon's libraries
Printemps du Numérique is a biennial festival organized by the Municipal Library of Lyon and the metropolitan library network. For two weeks in April, dozens of workshops, meetings, demonstrations, and exhibitions take place in the libraries of Lyon and the Métropole to explore digital creation in all its forms: 3D modeling, video games, sound creation, digital poetry, artificial intelligence, and much more.
Printemps du Numérique is a unique festival, driven by the Bibliothèque municipale de Lyon and the Pôle Métropole of the metropolitan library network. Since its creation in the early 2010s, this biennial event transforms Lyon's libraries into true digital creation laboratories, open to all audiences.
The ambition of Printemps du Numérique is to show that every creative gesture counts, that imagination and collaboration are powerful forces, and that digital tools can become playgrounds for everyone. The festival offers a wide range of activities:
The festival unfolds across all 16 municipal libraries in Lyon and partner libraries in the Métropole. Digital mediators in each establishment design and lead workshops adapted to all levels, from the curious novice to the experienced creator. This network dimension makes Printemps du Numérique a unique event, rooted in the neighborhoods and accessible to all.
Each edition culminates in a highlight event bringing together all participants and festival stakeholders in an emblematic library. Participatory workshops, free-access games, presentation of collective works, and a friendly buffet mark this festive day, which celebrates creation and sharing.
Printemps du Numérique regularly invites digital artists in residence to support workshops and create participatory works with the public. These artistic collaborations give rise to interactive installations, exhibitions, and collective creations that testify to the richness of exchanges between artists, mediators, and participants.
The festival pays particular attention to accessibility. Workshops are open to all ages and levels, with personalized mediation for people with disabilities. Registration is free for all activities, in line with the public service mission of libraries. Printemps du Numérique thus embodies the conviction that digital culture is a common good, built and shared in local spaces.
Printemps du Numérique 2026 will take place from April 18 to 30 in all libraries of Lyon and the Métropole, with a highlight event on April 25 at Bibliothèque Lacassagne. The festival will explore digital creation in all its forms.
