The Fête de Clichy: A Cosmopolitan City Celebrating
Clichy is a municipality in the Hauts-de-Seine department with over 62,000 inhabitants, directly adjacent to the 17th arrondissement of Paris. This exceptional geographical position — a stone's throw from the Boulevard Périphérique, served by metro line 13 and soon by the Grand Paris Express — makes Clichy a pivotal city, both a Parisian suburb and a natural extension of the capital.
The city is known for its historical industrial fabric — it long housed factories and manufacturing plants — but also for its recent transformation into a prime residential, commercial, and cultural area. The Fête de Clichy is the festive expression of this renewed vitality.
Fête de la Musique, a Highlight of the Clichy Summer
The Fête de la Musique on June 21st is one of Clichy's most popular festive events. The 2025 edition featured a musical route through the streets, transforming the town center into a traveling stage. The procession, composed of brass bands, batucadas, and the Akata Kolo Orchestra — an afrobeat brass band — paraded through the streets to music before gathering for a festive finale at Parc Salengro.
This format of musical procession is particularly well-suited to Clichy, a dense and cosmopolitan city, where music in public spaces resonates differently than in enclosed venues. It reaches all residents, in their daily lives, from their windows or sidewalks.
A Dense Cultural Agenda
Beyond the Fête de la Musique, Clichy boasts a particularly rich cultural and festive agenda. The Clichy Tourist Office lists dozens of events each year: exhibitions, shows, sporting events, markets, and themed evenings. The salle des fêtes (banquet hall) and the city's cultural facilities regularly host concerts, children's shows, and dance evenings.
Parc Salengro is Clichy's central green space and the venue for many festive gatherings. Its lawns and shaded paths host picnics, open-air concerts, and seasonal activities that punctuate the lives of Clichy's residents.
Proximity to Paris, Own Identity
Clichy's unique characteristic is its ability to play on two fronts: immediate proximity to Paris, allowing it to benefit from the capital's cultural influence, and its strong municipal identity, ensuring an independent festive and associative life. Clichy residents don't need to go to Paris to enjoy concerts, festivals, and events: their city provides them, with offerings tailored to its diverse population.
