With 213 venues opening their doors and 357 events spread across 30 municipalities, there is plenty to explore. This year's national themes are "Heritage of Photography," marking the bicentenary of the medium, and "Heritage in Peril: Revive, Resist, Reimagine." Departmental sites are offering free admission, including the Musée Albert-Kahn, the Château de Sceaux, the Maison de Chateaubriand, the Tour aux figures, the JAD, and the Departmental Archives. The department's river shuttle will also be free of charge throughout the weekend.

2026 Edition

The 43rd European Heritage Days will be held on Saturday, September 19th and Sunday, September 20th, 2026, throughout the department. The Departmental Council is opening its cultural sites, museums, and parks, offering guided tours, family workshops, theatrical performances, and access to areas usually closed to the public.

The two themes selected by the Ministry of Culture are "Heritage of Photography," celebrating the bicentenary of photography, and the European theme "Heritage in Peril: Revive, Resist, Reimagine." In the 92 department, 52 events are linked to the first theme and 95 to the second.

The national portal lists 213 open sites across 30 of the department's 36 municipalities, with 680 time slots available: 12 on Friday evening, September 18th, 380 on Saturday, and 288 on Sunday. Out of 357 events, 348 are free, 154 require booking, and 77 sites are opening exceptionally. 33 venues are participating for the first time, including the FDJ United studios in Boulogne-Billancourt, the Paris Observatory in Meudon, and the Tour Alto in Courbevoie.

As of mid-August 2026, the Department has not yet published its detailed brochure, with the website indicating the full program is "coming soon." However, details for each location are already available on the Ministry of Culture's national portal.

European Heritage Days in the Hauts-de-Seine

On the third weekend of September, the European Heritage Days open the doors to the department's historical, architectural, and natural treasures. In 2026, the Ministry of Culture's national portal lists 213 locations participating across 30 of the 36 municipalities in the 92 area, offering a total of 357 events.

The event is coordinated by the Ministry of Culture. In the Hauts-de-Seine, the Departmental Council opens its own sites alongside local municipalities, institutions, and businesses, including museums, estates, gardens, town halls, schools, artisan workshops, hospitals, and railway maintenance centers.

Department-Managed Sites

The Albert-Kahn Departmental Museum in Boulogne-Billancourt houses the Archives of the Planet, a visual inventory of the world in photographs and films initiated by banker Albert Kahn. The museum is surrounded by a garden featuring various landscaped scenes.

The Maison de Chateaubriand in Châtenay-Malabry is the residence where François-René de Chateaubriand wrote part of his Mémoires d'outre-tombe, located within the Vallée-aux-Loups departmental estate.

The Domaine Départemental de Sceaux brings together the château—now a departmental museum—the Pavillon de l'Aurore with its 1672 dome painted by Charles Le Brun, and a park designed by André Le Nôtre. The Petit Château currently hosts the prefiguration pavilion for the Musée du Grand Siècle, offering a preview of the collections destined for the future museum in Saint-Cloud.

The JAD (Jardin des métiers d'Art et du Design) in Sèvres is housed in a 1930s Art Deco building, formerly a manufacturing workshop for the Manufacture de Sèvres, and now hosts resident designers and craftspeople.

Jean Dubuffet's Tour aux figures, located in the Île Saint-Germain departmental park in Issy-les-Moulineaux, is a monumental sculpture featuring an internal ascending labyrinth. A dedicated discovery space is located in the Grande Halle.

The Departmental Archives in Nanterre open their conservation rooms for the weekend, allowing the public to walk among a kilometer of original documents.
