The great meeting point for Breton culture in Val-d'Oise
Pariz Breizh is an annual festival celebrating Breton culture in Argenteuil, organized since the early 2000s by the association Tud Yaouank. Every autumn, the esplanade of the Salle Jean Vilar transforms into a true piece of Brittany in Île-de-France: market of Breton products, bagad, fest-noz with traditional musicians, games and activities. The festival is one of the most important gatherings of the Breton diaspora in the Paris region, proudly perpetuating the language, dances, and music of Brittany.
In Argenteuil, a cosmopolitan city on the outskirts of Paris, Breton culture has long found fertile ground and a passionate community. It is in this spirit that the association Tud Yaouank organizes every autumn the Pariz Breizh festival, which literally means "Paris Brittany" in the Breton language. This festive and popular gathering brings together in one day all that makes Breton culture rich and unique: music, dance, gastronomy, crafts, and language.
Since its first editions in the early 2000s, Pariz Breizh has become one of the most anticipated events in Argenteuil's cultural life and an essential landmark for the Breton diaspora throughout Île-de-France. In 2015, the festival was already celebrating its 10th anniversary, testifying to its longevity and the public's attachment to this celebration of Breton identity in the Île-de-France region.
The Pariz Breizh day is structured around several highlights that follow one another from the opening of the market in the morning until the grand fest-noz that lasts late into the night.
From the morning, a market of Breton products opens its doors on the esplanade. Producers and artisans have traveled from Brittany to offer their specialties: crêpes and galettes, salted butter, kouign-amann, far breton, cider and chouchen, charcuterie, biscuits, honeys, and preserves. A true festival of flavors, where each stand is an invitation to travel.
The market also hosts artisans offering products of Breton material culture: headdresses, Celtic jewelry, pottery, prints, and handicrafts. Books in the Breton language (brezhoneg) and educational materials for learning the language are available.
The afternoon is dedicated to outdoor musical and cultural activities. A bagad — the traditional Breton musical ensemble combining bagpipes, bombards, and percussion — parades on the esplanade, creating an immediately recognizable sound atmosphere. Groups of musicians and singers take turns on the open stage to introduce or reintroduce the traditional Breton repertoire.
Workshops for Breton games — shot put, tug-of-war, Breton wrestling (gouren) — are offered to children and adults. Introductions to Breton dances allow newcomers to familiarize themselves with the basic steps of the gavotte, the rond de Saint-Vincent, or the kost ar c'hoad before joining the fest-noz.
The highlight of the day is undoubtedly the grand Fest-Noz in the evening. "Fest-noz" means "night festival" in Breton: it is a traditional gathering where people sing and dance collectively, around musicians playing acoustic instruments — binioù-kozh (Breton bagpipes), bombarde, couple sonneurs, or modern electric groups playing traditional tunes.
At Pariz Breizh, the fest-noz brings together leading musicians from Brittany, sometimes accompanied by kan ha diskan singers — the alternating song, the living heart of Breton music. The dance floor is open to all: insiders and beginners mingle in the circles and parades, forming the great human chain that is the very essence of the fest-noz.
In 2016, UNESCO inscribed the fest-noz on the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity, recognizing its importance as a living community practice. Pariz Breizh contributes to the perpetuation of this heritage far from the Breton coasts.
The association Tud Yaouank ("young people" in Breton), based in Argenteuil, is the driving force behind Pariz Breizh. Composed of Breton culture enthusiasts — musicians, dancers, language activists — it organizes Breton dance classes, traditional music workshops, and cultural events throughout the year, culminating each autumn with the festival.
Pariz Breizh 2026 returns to Argenteuil for another day celebrating Breton culture: Breton products market, musical entertainment, bagad, and a grand fest-noz in the evening. An unmissable event for the Breton diaspora in Île-de-France.
The Pariz Breizh festival returns in autumn 2026 to perpetuate the tradition of the great Breton festival in Argenteuil. Organized by the Tud Yaouank association, this annual gathering will once again bring together the Breton community of Île-de-France and all lovers of Celtic culture.
On the program: Breton products market from the morning, musical and cultural entertainment in the afternoon with a bagad and musicians, Breton games and traditional dance initiation workshops, followed by a grand fest-noz in the evening. The full musical lineup will be announced in the summer of 2026.
