International Science Film Festival in Paris
Created in 2005 by the Association Science & Télévision, Pariscience is the leading international science film festival in France. Every year in October, the festival presents a free selection of the best recent French and international scientific audiovisual productions — documentaries, animated films, shorts and features — at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle and the Institut de physique du globe de Paris. All screenings are followed by discussions between scientists, film crews and the public, making Pariscience a prime meeting place between science and cinema, accessible to all audiences.
Since its creation in 2005, Pariscience has established itself as the main scientific film festival in France and one of the most important in Europe. Organized by the Association Science & Télévision (AST), the festival is held every year in October in the prestigious setting of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle and the Institut de physique du globe de Paris, in the heart of the Latin Quarter.
The festival presents a rigorous selection of the best recent scientific audiovisual productions, both French and international, in all formats — from short films to features, from documentaries to animated films. The program covers all scientific disciplines: physics, biology, astronomy, Earth sciences, medicine, environment, technologies, human and social sciences.
One of Pariscience's remarkable features is its free admission. Access to all screenings is free, upon registration, allowing it to reach a large and diverse audience: schoolchildren, families, audiovisual and research professionals, and the general public curious about science. This accessibility is at the heart of the festival's mission: to bring science and cinema closer together, to make scientific discoveries accessible, and to stimulate public debate on the challenges of contemporary research.
Each screening is followed by a discussion involving the film crews — directors, producers — and scientific experts. These exchanges allow the public to delve deeper into the topics covered by the films, ask questions, and compare cinematic representations with research realities. This unique format makes Pariscience a vibrant and interactive scientific mediation space.
Pariscience pays special attention to school audiences. Screenings dedicated to schools, middle schools, and high schools are organized during the festival week, with programs adapted to different levels and interventions by researchers. On weekends, family screenings allow younger audiences to discover science through cinema, in a fun and educational atmosphere.
The festival awards several prizes, decided by a jury composed of scientists, journalists, and audiovisual professionals. These awards contribute to the visibility of the winning films and their circulation within scientific and cultural distribution networks.
Since 2020, Pariscience has also offered an online program, allowing viewers from all over France and the world to watch selected films and participate in discussions remotely. This hybrid system has considerably expanded the festival's audience and strengthened its mission of disseminating scientific culture.
Screenings take place at:
Metro: Jussieu (lines 7 and 10), Place Monge (line 7), Gare d'Austerlitz (lines 5 and 10).
RER: Gare d'Austerlitz (RER C).
Admission is completely free, upon mandatory registration.
