The Grape Harvest Festival of Gagny: the popular festival with local flavors in Seine-Saint-Denis
Gagny, a town of 40,000 inhabitants east of Seine-Saint-Denis, enjoys a strong local identity and a festive life marked by popular events deeply rooted in its history. The town has the unique feature of hosting a municipal vineyard, a remnant of the vineyards that once covered the hillsides of this region. It is around this vine and its grapes that one of the most anticipated events of the Gagny year is organized each autumn: the Fête des Vendanges.
But Gagny also celebrates summer with its summer program including fireworks and popular balls for the national holiday, and the various events organized by the municipality and its associations throughout the warm season.
The Fête des Vendanges de Gagny takes place every autumn at Parc Courbet, in the streets and squares of the town. It is one of the few festivals of its kind held in the Île-de-France region, outside traditional wine-producing areas, which gives it a unique and picturesque character.
The festival begins with a parade of decorated floats that cross the town with folk music, accompanied by bands and dancers in traditional costumes. The procession ends at Parc Courbet, where the mayor of the town symbolically presses the grapes to the applause of the crowd. Participants can then taste the freshly pressed grape juice, a much-appreciated festive and convivial tradition.
Around the grape pressing, a market of regional producers offers a selection of wines, cheeses, charcuterie, and artisanal specialties from different wine regions of France. Artisans, local creators, and associations also animate the space with stands, exhibitions, and entertainment throughout the day.
Amusement rides and attractions are set up for children, and street performances—musicians, fire-eaters, actors—enliven the park's pathways in a popular fair atmosphere. Gagny's associations take advantage of this festive moment to make themselves known and offer their activities to the residents.
The national holiday of July 14th is another unmissable event in Gagny. The day begins with a commemorative ceremony at the war memorial, in the presence of elected officials and veterans' associations. In the evening, Gagny residents gather to watch fireworks launched from the town hall, followed by a festive evening that joyfully celebrates the values of the Republic.
The Fête des Vendanges de Gagny returns in autumn 2026 for a new edition of this unique popular tradition in Seine-Saint-Denis. Parc Courbet will host the parade of floral floats, the symbolic grape pressing by the mayor, and the regional producers' market in a festive and convivial fair atmosphere.
On July 14th, 2026, Gagny will celebrate the national holiday with its commemorative ceremony and the traditional fireworks launched from the town hall, bringing residents together in a moment of patriotic and festive celebration.
