Three days to celebrate the living river in the heart of Nevers
The Fête de la Loire de Nevers is a festive and cultural event that celebrates the royal river and its heritage for three days. Organized every year in June on the Quai des Mariniers, this popular festival offers concerts, nautical demonstrations, a market of local producers and artisans, workshops for families, and shows. An unmissable event of the Nevers summer, the Fête de la Loire honors the memory of the boatmen and sailors while showcasing the Loire of today.
Nevers, prefecture of the Nièvre department, is intimately linked to the Loire, the longest river in France, which borders the city along its entire western part. For centuries, the Loire has been a major commercial route, transporting wines, timber from Morvan, Nevers earthenware, and many other goods. The boatmen and sailors who navigated the river have profoundly marked the identity and culture of the city.
The Fête de la Loire pays homage to this river heritage while celebrating the Loire of today: a wild river, a UNESCO World Heritage site, rich in exceptional biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes. For three days in June, the Quai des Mariniers becomes the stage for a grand popular festival combining culture, gastronomy, sports, and conviviality.
Nautical demonstrations are a central part of the program: traditional Loire boats, boat trips, barge maneuvers, and sailing initiations offer a lively spectacle on the river. The market of local producers and artisans allows visitors to discover the flavors of the Nevers region—Pouilly wines, cheeses, cured meats—and the artisanal know-how of the region.
Open-air concerts liven up the evenings by the water, while workshops for families (building model boats, fishing introductions, discovering Loire fauna and flora) and street performances complete a program designed for all audiences. A flea market adds a popular and friendly dimension to the event.
The Fête de la Loire is one of the highlights of the Nevers summer, bringing together thousands of residents and visitors along the river. It helps to re-establish the link between the city and its river, to promote the Loire heritage, and to animate the banks of Nevers in a warm and festive atmosphere.
