About Fête de la Musique de Fontenay

Every June 21st, Fontenay-sous-Bois celebrates the Fête de la Musique with a program mixing conservatory concerts, world music, and jazz. Music students perform at the Jean-François Voguet theater, while the association Musiques au Comptoir offers a world music concert with Teofilo Chantre and the Cesaria Evora project. A demanding yet accessible cultural event on the edge of the Bois de Vincennes.

The Fête de la Musique in Fontenay-sous-Bois: Artistic Excellence and Conviviality

In Fontenay-sous-Bois, the Fête de la Musique stands out with a dual ambition: to showcase local musical practice through conservatory students and to offer the public an exceptionally high-quality world music concert. This combination, supported by the town hall and local cultural associations, makes the Fontenay-sous-Bois Fête de la Musique an event that is both popular and demanding.

The Conservatory Celebrates at the Jean-François Voguet Theater

The day begins in the afternoon with concerts by students from the municipal conservatory of Fontenay-sous-Bois. Numerous classes and ensembles perform: percussion, flute, guitar, wind orchestras, and string orchestras take turns on stage to show the progress made throughout the year.

In 2025, due to the heat, these concerts were exceptionally moved from the Jacques-Brel hall to the Jean-François Voguet theater, offering an air-conditioned and comfortable setting for the young musicians and their audience. From 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM, about thirty musical groups enchanted the public in this quality cultural venue.

Musiques au Comptoir: 24 Years of World Music

The true uniqueness of the Fête de la Musique in Fontenay-sous-Bois is the concert organized by the association Musiques au Comptoir. For 24 consecutive years, this association has offered a major world music concert every June 21st in a festive and friendly atmosphere.

In 2025, for its 24th and final edition, Musiques au Comptoir invited Teofilo Chantre, a world-renowned Cape Verdean guitarist and singer, notably known for his long collaboration with the diva Cesaria Evora. Accompanied by his quartet and two Cape Verdean singers, Ceuzany and Mariame Ramos, he presented 2 hours of music for listening and dancing, transporting the audience to the heart of Cape Verdean morna and coladeira.

Local Blues and Rock

The Fontenay-sous-Bois Fête de la Musique also hosts local bands. The group Adena Strompers Blues Band offers an accessible and friendly blues-rock concert, true to the spirit of musical sharing that is at the heart of the Fête de la Musique.

Fontenay-sous-Bois, a Town at the Edge of the Bois de Vincennes

Fontenay-sous-Bois is a commune in the Val-de-Marne department nestled at the edge of the Bois de Vincennes, east of Paris. With its green spaces, quality cultural facilities (Jean-François Voguet theater, Elsa Triolet media library), and a dense network of associations, the town cultivates an active and diverse cultural life. The Fête de la Musique is an annual event that remains true to the original spirit of the festival: music for everyone, everywhere, for free.
