Rouen — Seine-Maritime (76) Since 2019

About Fête du Fleuve

La Fête du Fleuve is a festive, ecological, and maritime event organized every first weekend of July by the City of Rouen on both banks of the Seine. Created in 2019, this popular and free event invites Rouen residents and visitors to reclaim their river for a weekend. The program includes: boat trips, a giant picnic on the pedestrianized Pont Boieldieu, concerts, dances, water sports, a creators' market, ecology awareness workshops, climate exhibitions, and activities for all ages. La Fête du Fleuve embodies the rediscovered link between Rouen and the Seine, between maritime heritage and ecological transition.

Rouen rediscovers its Seine

In 2019, the City of Rouen launched Fête du Fleuve, an unprecedented event that highlights the Seine in the heart of the Rouen metropolitan area. For decades, the river was perceived as a border between the two banks rather than a link. Fête du Fleuve aims to change this perception by inviting residents to reclaim their river, to navigate on it, to picnic above its waters, and to discover its biodiversity and maritime heritage.

The event unfolds over three days, from Friday to Sunday, on the two banks of the Seine: quays on the right bank, prairie Saint-Sever on the left bank, and the Pont Boieldieu, which is entirely pedestrianized for the occasion. This emblematic bridge of Rouen, transformed into a festive esplanade, hosts a creators' market, food trucks, a tourist office information booth, and cultural activities.

A program combining celebration, sport, and ecology

Each edition of Fête du Fleuve offers a rich and diverse program. On the water, boat trips allow visitors to discover Rouen from the Seine, including solar-powered boats like the Eolios and Little John designed by Concept Hélios Propulsion, offering eco-responsible navigation. Free introductory sessions to rowing, kayaking, canoeing, and sailing are offered by local nautical clubs.

On the quays and the prairie Saint-Sever, concerts and dances liven up the evenings, including a giant friendship Zumba and street performances. The Pavillon des Transitions hosts exhibitions on climate disruption, developed in partnership with the University of Rouen Normandie and based on the work of the GIEC of the Rouen Normandie Metropolis. Workshops on marine carpentry, demonstrations of heritage boats like the Sequana and the Yole 27, and exhibitions on river biodiversity complete the program.

A popular and free event

Fête du Fleuve is an entirely free event, accessible to all audiences. Families, athletes, the curious, ecology enthusiasts, or simply strollers: everyone finds their place in this weekend that celebrates the link between Rouen and its river. The event is part of an ecological transition initiative led by the Rouen Normandie Metropolis, with particular attention to water quality, bank protection, and environmental awareness.
