The Comice Agricole de Sées, officially "Comice Agricole Loutreuil de Sées et d'Alençon Est", is a traditional agricultural event held annually in September in Sées, in the Orne department. This show brings together breeders and farmers from the district for an afternoon of animal competitions, Percheron horse presentations, vegetable contests, local product tastings, and family-friendly activities. A Tradition of Agriculture at the Heart of Sées

The Comice Agricole de Sées upholds an agricultural tradition deeply rooted in the Orne region. Every September, the episcopal city of Sées, with its majestic Gothic cathedral, hosts breeders, farmers, and visitors for an afternoon dedicated to celebrating the agricultural world and its know-how.

Animal Competitions

The heart of the show lies in the animal competitions that bring together the best breeders from the district:

  • Regional Breeding Competition: Presentation of cattle from various breeds raised in the region, judging, and classification by category.
  • Percheron Horse Breeding: Presentation of this emblematic breed of the Orne region, demonstrations, and in-hand presentations.
  • Cattle Weighing Competition: A traditional event where animals are weighed and ranked.
  • Presentation of Young Calves by Children: A moving and educational moment that ensures the transmission of knowledge between generations.

Vegetable Competition

A vegetable competition pits local gardeners against each other, presenting their finest specimens: pumpkins, squashes, tomatoes, carrots, and other garden produce are judged on size, shape, and quality.

Activities and Camaraderie

The show offers a program of various activities throughout the afternoon:

  • Zumba and Sports Activities: Dance and outdoor sports sessions for everyone.
  • Inflatable Structures: Play area for children.
  • Tasting of Local Products: Cheeses, cured meats, cider, and Norman specialties.
  • Country Meal: A lunch is offered at noon (by prior reservation).

The Comice Loutreuil Association

The show is organized by the Comice Loutreuil association, a community organization that unites breeders and farmers from Sées and East Alençon. This association perpetuates the tradition of agricultural shows, these gatherings where people from the livestock world share information, compare their work, and reward the best animals.

Sées, Episcopal City of Orne

Sées, with its Notre-Dame Cathedral classified as a historic monument, its abbeys, and its remarkable architectural heritage, provides a majestic setting for this agricultural event. The Cours des Fontaines, the traditional venue for the show, is a green space in the city center that allows visitors to enjoy the event in a pleasant environment.
