Comice de Sées — edition 2026

The Loutreuil Agricultural Show for Alençon Est and Sées returns on Saturday, September 5th, 2026, from 10 am to 5 pm, at the Cours des Fontaines in Sées. Enjoy free access to animal competitions, Percheron horse displays, and the chance to meet local breeders from the district.

2026 Edition

The Loutreuil Agricultural Show for Alençon Est and Sées will take place on Saturday, September 5th, 2026, from 10 am to 5 pm, at the Cours des Fontaines, right in the heart of Sées. Admission is free. Both the town of Sées and Elvup, the Orne livestock organization that oversees the department's agricultural shows, have confirmed this date.

Please note: the date has changed

The municipal calendar initially listed the event for Sunday, September 13th. The town of Sées has since issued a correction: the 2026 edition will indeed take place on Saturday, September 5th at the Cours des Fontaines, not the 13th. Please update your records if you noted the previous date.

Not to be confused with the district show

On Sunday, September 13th, 2026, the Sées / Alençon Est district agricultural show, held in conjunction with the Courtomer and Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe canton show, will take place in Courtomer. This is a separate event in a different town in the Orne department; the Sées show remains at the Cours des Fontaines on September 5th.

Detailed program

The hour-by-hour schedule for the 2026 edition has not yet been released, as organizers state the event is still "in full preparation." The district animal competitions (cattle, Percheron horses) remain the highlight of the day. For details on activities and meal arrangements, the best approach is to contact the Comice Loutreuil association ([email protected]) or check the Sées town calendar.

Not to be confused

On Sunday, September 13th, 2026, the Sées / Alençon East district fair is being held jointly with the agricultural fair of Courtomer and Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe, but in Courtomer. This is a different event; the Sées fair takes place on September 5th at the Cours des Fontaines.

Prices

Admission to the livestock competitions and entertainment is completely free.

Food and drink

A refreshment bar is open on-site. Previous editions also offered a country-style meal upon prior registration with the association; for 2026, details and pricing have not yet been published—please contact Comice Loutreuil at [email protected]. Local producer stands also allow you to taste and purchase Orne terroir products: cheeses, charcuterie, cider, honey, jams, and Norman specialties.

Families and children

The fair is particularly well-suited for families: the proximity to farm animals, the presentation of young calves by children, and entertainment for the youngest visitors have been highlights of previous editions.

Agricultural tradition at the heart of Sées

The Comice Agricole de Sées upholds an agricultural heritage deeply rooted in the Orne region. Every September, the episcopal city of Sées, with its majestic Gothic cathedral, welcomes breeders, farmers, and visitors for a day dedicated to celebrating farming and local expertise.

Livestock competitions

The highlight of the fair is the livestock competition, which brings together the finest breeders from the district:

  • Regional breeding competition: showcasing various cattle breeds from the region, with judging and category rankings.
  • Percheron horse breeding: a presentation of this iconic breed from the Orne terroir, featuring demonstrations and in-hand displays.
  • Cattle weighing contest: a traditional event where animals are weighed and ranked.
  • Young calf presentation by children: a touching and educational moment that fosters the passing of knowledge between generations.

Vegetable contest

A vegetable contest pits local gardeners against one another as they showcase their finest produce: pumpkins, squash, tomatoes, carrots, and other garden goods are judged on size, shape, and quality.

Entertainment and conviviality

The fair offers a variety of entertainment throughout the day, which changes from one year to the next:

  • Sports activities and dance demonstrations: open-air sessions for everyone to enjoy.
  • Children's games: a dedicated area for the little ones.
  • Local product tastings: cheeses, charcuterie, cider, and Norman specialties.
  • Country-style meal: a lunch is available, though prior registration with the association is required.

The Comice Loutreuil Association

The fair is organized by the Comice Loutreuil Association, a group that unites breeders and farmers from Sées and the east of Alençon. This association preserves the tradition of agricultural fairs, where the farming community gathers to share information, compare their work, and reward the best animals.

Sées, an episcopal city in the Orne

Sées, with its Notre-Dame cathedral—a listed historic monument—its abbeys, and its remarkable architectural heritage, provides a majestic setting for this agricultural event. The Cours des Fontaines, the traditional venue for the fair, is a green space in the town center that allows visitors to enjoy the event in a pleasant environment.
