La Michaudière: The Heavy Horse Show in Normandy
Nestled in the heart of the Orne countryside, La Michaudière is a heavy horse farm set in an exceptional location: an orchard of century-old pear trees, typically Norman, in Juvigny-Val-d'Andaine, near Bagnoles-de-l'Orne. For over 30 years, this unique place has offered the biggest equestrian show in Normandy, 'De la Terre à la Scène'.
A Grand Show with 30 Horses
The 'De la Terre à la Scène' show features about thirty horses in varied and spectacular acts:
The Percheron and the Norman Cob
The emblematic breeds of Normandy are the stars of the show. The Percherons, with their power and elegance, and the Norman Cobs, versatile and athletic, demonstrate the full nobility of heavy horses in carriage driving and liberty work routines.
The Shire, the World's Tallest Horse
La Michaudière presents the Shire, the tallest horse breed in the world, in impressive demonstrations that never fail to amaze the audience with these gentle and majestic giants.
Dressage, Vaulting, and Hungarian Post
Dressage, vaulting, and Hungarian post (where the rider stands on two galloping horses) routines offer moments of grace and athletic performance, showcasing the unique bond between humans and horses.
A Living Farm to Discover
Beyond the show, La Michaudière is an open farm that visitors can explore from 11 am. The stables, paddocks, farm animals, and the magnificent pear orchard constitute a visit in themselves, ideal for families. The farm shop offers local products for direct sale.
A Place Steeped in History
With over 800,000 spectators since its creation, La Michaudière has established itself as a major heritage and tourist site in the Orne region. It contributes to the preservation of heavy horse breeds and the transmission of ancestral equestrian knowledge.
