The Fêtes de Cambo are the highlight of the summer in Cambo-les-Bains. For six days, from Friday to Wednesday, the town center of this charming spa resort transforms into a place of celebration where Basque traditions, music, gastronomy, and entertainment combine for everyone's enjoyment. Residents and visitors come together in a festive and popular atmosphere that has made village festivals in the Basque Country renowned.
The official opening of the festivals is an emblematic moment. From the Town Hall balcony, the opening ceremony kicks off the festivities at 6 PM, followed by the tamborrada and a mutxiko led by the dance troupe Kanboko Izarra. The drummers' procession goes through the streets of Cambo, drawing the crowd into a contagious fervor that marks the beginning of the celebrations.
The parade of giants, led by the imposing Sukila and its guests, is a magical moment of the Fêtes de Cambo. These giant figures parade through the town's streets, enchanting young and old alike. Street performances, night parades for children, and daytime activities complete a rich program for families.
The evenings are filled with concerts at the Bas Cambo fronton with bands like Xiberoots, Bulego, and lively DJ sets. Basque pelota games at the fronton gather fans of this emblematic sport. Demonstrations of Basque strength and traditional dances recall the deep roots of these festivals in Basque culture.
The program also includes a large flea market, association days, a flea market, and local gastronomy events. The fireworks light up the Cambo sky to the delight of spectators. The closing day, often a Wednesday, features association activities and neighborhood entertainment to prolong the celebration to the very end.
