The Autumn Fruit Festival: celebrating seasonal flavors

Every year in October, the town of Argentré in Mayenne celebrates the riches of autumn through its Autumn Fruit Festival, an event that has become a must-attend in the region's life. Organized at the Salle de l'Escapade, this friendly festival highlights local seasonal products and the know-how of Mayenne producers.

The Departmental Pomological Competition

The highlight of the festival is the departmental pomological competition, which features exhibitions of apples and autumn fruits of local and old varieties. This competition allows the public to (re)discover the diversity of fruit varieties in the region and raises awareness about the preservation of Mayenne's arboreal heritage.

Popular Competitions

Three competitions liven up the weekend and spark enthusiastic participation from visitors:

• The largest pumpkin: amateur gardeners present their most imposing cucurbits
• The most beautiful autumn basket: participants create an arrangement of vegetables and fruits from their garden
• The best jam: three categories compete — single-fruit jam, multi-fruit jam, and jelly

A Local Producers' Market

Numerous exhibitors are present to offer their products: cider, perry, craft beer, cheeses, vegetables, pâtés, preserves, apples, walnuts, and other seasonal specialties. Visitors can taste and buy directly from producers, in a spirit of short supply chains and local product promotion.

Demonstrations and Autumn Meals

The program is complemented by demonstrations of artisanal know-how and tastings. On Sunday lunchtime, an autumn meal made with local products is offered to guests, making this festival a true gourmet event.
