Peintres dans la Rue: Open-air art in a Petite Cité de Caractère

Every year in mid-June, the village of Parné-sur-Roc transforms into a vast open-air painting studio. The Journée Peintres dans la Rue invites artists of all levels to set up in the streets, alleys, and squares of this village labeled Petite Cité de Caractère, to capture on canvas the atmosphere and soul of this village with its remarkable heritage.

An open-air painting competition

The heart of the event is an open-air painting competition, open to amateur and experienced painters. The rules are simple and stimulating:

• Registration from 8 am to 10 am at the Salle des Lucioles
• Creation on-site throughout the day
• All media and techniques allowed (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, etc.)
• The artwork must be created entirely on the day, from life
• Exhibition of works and jury visit at the end of the day
• Award ceremony around 5 pm

The village as a subject

Parné-sur-Roc offers painters a rich repertoire of subjects: half-timbered houses, tuffeau stone facades, flowery lanes, Romanesque church, washhouses, bridge over the Jouanne river, and views of the surrounding countryside. Artists can freely set up in the village to find the angle and subject that inspires them.

A creators' market and entertainment

Around the competition, the day offers a rich and varied program of entertainment:

• Creators' market: art craftsmen, painters, sculptors, potters, and local creators
• Art workshops for children (under 10 years old) supervised by animators
• Musical entertainment and musical interludes throughout the day
• Street theater performance
• Exhibition of vintage mopeds and classic cars
• Craft demonstrations: accordionist, carpenter, miniaturist
• Guided hike and guided tour of the village and church

Parné-sur-Roc, Petite Cité de Caractère

Parné-sur-Roc is one of the Petites Cités de Caractère in Mayenne, a label that distinguishes villages remarkable for their architectural and landscape heritage. Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Jouanne valley, the village preserves exceptional built heritage, with its medieval houses, lime kilns, and Romanesque church. The Journée Peintres dans la Rue is the perfect opportunity to discover this gem of Mayenne's heritage.

The event is organized by the municipality of Parné-sur-Roc in collaboration with the association Parné Patrimoine, which works throughout the year to enhance and protect the commune's heritage. This day is part of a broader initiative to promote the village and its history.
