Open-air contemporary art trail in Angers
Since 2016, the City of Angers has annually presented Échappées d'Art, an open-air contemporary art trail that invites artists to inhabit public spaces. Conceived as a true urban artistic itinerary, this project transforms the city's walls, facades, and squares into creative canvases, offering Angers residents and visitors a free and accessible cultural experience for everyone.
Each new edition enriches the trail with several new works, created by artists selected for their talent and their ability to engage with the local environment. Monumental murals, sculptures, ephemeral or permanent installations, graphic works on the tramway: the artistic forms diversify year after year, making Angers a must-visit destination for street art and mural art in France.
The programming is entrusted to specialized curators and organizations, in collaboration with the Angers museums and the TALM art and design school. Among the artists who have marked recent editions: Julien de Casabianca for the very first edition, followed by Raphaël Emine, Irma Kalt, Kahina Loumi, and the collective La Douceur, who created a participatory mural in the Roseraie district.
The Échappées d'Art trail can be explored freely on foot or by bike, with guided tours offered throughout the summer season. Art workshops also allow the public to discover the techniques of the invited artists. The trail covers the entire city center of Angers and gradually extends to other neighborhoods, with a clear commitment to cultural democratization and the enhancement of the urban living environment.
Over the editions, Échappées d'Art has built a true permanent contemporary artistic heritage. The lasting works line the streets of Angers, creating an open-air museum that evolves each year. This project is part of the ambitious cultural policy of the City of Angers, which uses public art as a lever for social cohesion, tourist attraction, and cultural influence.
Échappées d'Art returns for its 11th edition in the summer of 2026. The open-air contemporary art trail will continue to be enriched with new works, blending street art, sculpture, and graphic design in the streets and neighborhoods of Angers.
The full program and the names of the invited artists will be unveiled in the spring of 2026 on the City of Angers website. Guided tours on foot and by bike will be offered throughout the summer season.
