A Patronal Festival at the Foot of a Historic Castle

The Saint-Michel Festival of Lignac takes place in the exceptional setting of the village of Château Guillaume, dominated by the imposing ruins of the eponymous castle built between 1087 and 1112 by William IX of Aquitaine, the famous troubadour. This patronal festival celebrates Saint Michael every year, around September 29th, the traditional date of Saint Michael in the liturgical calendar.

A Market of Producers and Artisans

The highlight of the day is the market of local producers and artisans, which runs from 10 am to 6 pm in the village streets. You will find:

• Local producers: Cheeses, cured meats, honey, jams, wines, and products from the Berry region
• Artisans: Potters, basket weavers, wood turners, creators of artisanal objects
• Workshops: Introduction to object creation and archery

This market offers an opportunity to discover local know-how and stock up on quality products in a remarkable heritage setting.

Mass, Meal, and Cycling Races

The program for the Saint-Michel Festival includes:

• 11 am: Saint-Michel Mass in the church dedicated to Saint Michael, a small Romanesque church in the heart of the village
• 12 pm: Grand beef bourguignon meal, served for around 13 euros, bringing together locals and visitors around a convivial table
• 2:30 pm: Cycling races in the vicinity of the village, attracting cyclists and spectators
• All day: Refreshments and various entertainment

Château Guillaume, a Heritage Jewel

Château Guillaume is a listed historic monument, located on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Allemette valley. Built at the beginning of the 12th century by William IX of Aquitaine, Duke of Aquitaine and Count of Poitiers, it had a turbulent history over the centuries and today presents impressive remains: keep, ramparts, towers, and main building.
