The festival is biennial (odd years) and takes place on the last weekend of September, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. The art of storytelling in the heart of the Lorraine countryside
Every two years since 2017, the small village of Moutrot, nestled in the Pays de Colombey et du Sud Toulois, becomes the Lorraine capital of storytelling. The Contes aux 4 Vents Festival invites young and old to be carried away by the magic of stories, in an authentic and warm rural setting.
A festival of orality
The festival celebrates the art of speech in all its forms. For three days, professional storytellers from all over France share their tales with the public:
- Storytelling shows: about twenty shows programmed, from traditional tales to contemporary narratives, from the marvelous to the realistic
- Interludes: short narrative forms between shows, to maintain the magic
- Open stage: a space dedicated to amateur storytellers and residents who wish to share their stories
- School program: interventions in schools in the area prior to the festival
A collection of voices
Prior to each edition, a collection of voices is organized in the territory of the Communauté de Communes. Residents are invited to share their memories, anecdotes, and local stories, which feed into the festival's program and create a link between the oral heritage of the territory and the shows offered.
A collective event
The Contes aux 4 Vents Festival is a true territorial project. Supported by the Communauté de Communes du Pays de Colombey et du Sud Toulois, it mobilizes residents, associations, volunteers, artists, and local structures in a participatory approach. The village of Moutrot is transformed for a weekend: barns, gardens, and squares become performance venues.
An enchanting rural setting
The choice of Moutrot, a small village of a few hundred inhabitants, as the festival location is not accidental. The country setting, stone buildings, orchards, and country paths offer a perfect natural backdrop for the art of storytelling, reconnecting with the ancestral tradition of rural gatherings.
A growing festival
Since its creation in 2017, the festival has continued to grow, evolving from a small local event to a recognized festival in the French storytelling scene. The fifth edition in 2025 confirms the anchoring of this event in the Lorraine cultural calendar.
