To Discover Nearby
Take advantage of your visit to Toul to discover the local heritage and the riches of Meurthe-et-Moselle. The department is full of historical sites, museums, natural parks, and Lorraine gastronomic specialties to discover throughout the year.
Enchanting Christmas in the Episcopal City
Each year in December, the city of Toul hosts its Christmas Market, one of the most popular in Meurthe-et-Moselle. Located in the heart of the episcopal city, at the foot of the majestic Saint-Étienne Cathedral and the cloister of the Collégiale Saint-Gengoult, the market takes advantage of an exceptional heritage setting to create an authentic and magical Christmas atmosphere.
Craftsmanship, Gastronomy, and Local Produce
The Toul Christmas Market brings together dozens of chalets from local artisans and producers. Visitors can discover original handmade creations—pottery, jewelry, candles, decorations, wooden toys—as well as seasonal and Lorraine gastronomic specialties: mulled wine, gingerbread, foie gras, chocolates, sweets, and cheeses. The Gourmet Market, located in Place du Couarail and on the parvis of the Collégiale Saint-Gengoult, particularly highlights the flavors of the Lorraine region.
Activities for the Whole Family
Beyond the market, Toul offers a rich and varied program of activities throughout the Christmas period. Carriage rides allow visitors to discover the decorated and illuminated city. The Chorale des Lutins (Elves' Choir) delights young and old. Creative workshops for children, live sculpture demonstrations, Christmas storytelling, and shows punctuate the weekends. The official inauguration kicks off the festivities in early December with a ceremony illuminating the city.
A Medieval Heritage Enhanced by Christmas Lights
Toul, a city of art and history, offers an incomparable setting for a Christmas market. The medieval ramparts, half-timbered houses, Gothic cathedral, and Renaissance cloister are magnified by the Christmas illuminations, creating a unique ambiance that transports visitors to a timeless world. A visit to the market can be an opportunity to discover Toul's rich heritage: the Saint-Étienne Cathedral with its flamboyant facade, the cloister of the Collégiale Saint-Gengoult, the Museum of Art and History, and the Vauban ramparts.
