The magic of Christmas in the heart of Place Stanislas and the city center
The Nancy Christmas Markets are among the most prestigious and magical in France. Each year, from late November to early January, the city of Nancy transforms into a true Christmas town, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to discover its illuminations, chalets, and unique festive atmosphere within its historic squares.
Place Stanislas, an 18th-century architectural gem and UNESCO World Heritage site, is the heart of the festivities. Every evening, the facade of the Town Hall becomes a giant screen for a 10-minute sound and light show titled "The Legend of Saint Nicholas," projecting magical animations that delight young and old alike.
On Place Charles III, the Grand Village of Saint Nicholas hosts about sixty decorated chalets, bathed in the scents of gingerbread, mulled wine, and Lorraine specialties. Artisans, creators, and local producers offer their creations: Christmas decorations, jewelry, local products, sweets, and gift ideas.
The Christmas markets are an opportunity to taste Lorraine specialties: quiche lorraine, pâté lorraine, mirabelle plums, Nancy macarons, bergamots, gingerbread, and of course, traditional mulled wine. The food chalets also offer Christmas specialties from Alsace and Europe.
The Nancy Christmas Markets are the city's largest annual event, attracting visitors from all over France and neighboring countries (Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany). They significantly contribute to the tourist and economic influence of Nancy and Lorraine during the holiday season.
From November 20, 2026, to January 3, 2027, Nancy adorns itself with lights for the Saint-Nicolas Celebrations. In the heart of the historic center, the Grand Village de Saint-Nicolas (Place Charles III), six gourmet hamlets, a Ferris wheel, an ice rink, and a videomapping show on Place Stanislas, a UNESCO World Heritage site, animate the city. The highlight: the grand weekend of December 5 and 6, with the Saint-Nicolas parade on the theme « Legends & Chimeras ».
From November 20, 2026, to January 3, 2027, Nancy celebrates Saint-Nicolas, patron saint of Lorraine, with a rich program: illuminations throughout the city, artistic installations, participatory creations, videomapping, gourmet villages and hamlets, shows, entertainment, parades, and the traditional grand procession.
At Place Charles III, the Grand Village de Saint-Nicolas brings together more than 65 wooden chalets where Lorraine artisans, creators, and producers offer decorations, gift ideas, local products, and delicacies, amidst the scents of gingerbread and mulled wine.
The 2026 edition extends its activities to several city center locations: six gourmet hamlets (Place Charles III, Place de la Carrière, Parc de la Pépinière, Place des Bourgets, Place Simone Veil, Place Saint-Epvre), a village dedicated to gifts and delights, a Ferris wheel, and an ice rink installed on Place de la Carrière.
The culmination of the festivities, the grand Saint-Nicolas parade takes place on Saturday, December 5, 2026, on the theme « Legends & Chimeras ». Illuminated floats, brass bands, and acrobatics cross the old town and Rue Saint-Jean before a magnificent finale on Place Stanislas: the handing over of the city's keys to Saint-Nicolas, a sound and light show, and fireworks.
Every evening during the celebrations, the facade of the City Hall transforms into a giant screen for a ten-minute videomapping show, projected onto Place Stanislas, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The detailed hour-by-hour program of 2026 events is progressively published on the official website saint-nicolas.nancy.fr.
