The Île d'Esch travels to the Middle Ages
Every two years, the Île d'Esch site, a magnificent green space on the banks of the Moselle in Pont-à-Mousson, transforms into a vast medieval camp. The Médiévales de Pont-à-Mousson offer total immersion into the world of the Middle Ages, with hundreds of costumed participants, historical re-enactments, and spectacular entertainment.
A Rich and Spectacular Program
The festival offers a dense program over two days, combining historical re-enactment, crafts, and live entertainment:
- Combat and Jousting: Knights in armor clash in spectacular fights, medieval fencing demonstrations, and equestrian jousting.
- Craftsmen of Yesteryear: Blacksmiths, potters, tanners, illuminators, and other artisans bring medieval know-how back to life.
- Falconry: Bird of prey flight demonstrations by professional falconers.
- Vikings: Viking camp with Scandinavian crafts and combat demonstrations.
- Fire Shows: Fire-eaters and fiery jugglers for a memorable evening show.
The Medieval Banquet
A highlight of the weekend, the medieval banquet on Saturday evening brings guests together from 7 PM for a festive meal accompanied by medieval music, dances, and fire shows. An immersive experience that transports participants to the heart of past festivities.
The Grand Parade
On Sunday at 11 AM, a grand medieval parade crosses the town from the Île d'Esch to the Place Duroc, the historic heart of Pont-à-Mousson. Knights, musicians, merchants, and costumed participants offer a colorful spectacle in the city streets.
A Lively Medieval Market
The medieval market brings together dozens of artisans and merchants offering jewelry, collectible weapons, leather goods, carved wood, pottery, costumes, old games, and medieval treats. It's an opportunity to discover artisanal skills and leave with a unique souvenir.
A Remarkable Heritage Setting
