The great medieval festival of Pont-à-Mousson on the banks of the Moselle
Every two years, the Île d'Esch site, a magnificent green space on the banks of the Moselle in Pont-à-Mousson, transforms into a vast medieval camp. The Médiévales de Pont-à-Mousson offer total immersion into the world of the Middle Ages, with hundreds of costumed participants, historical re-enactments, and spectacular entertainment.
The festival offers a dense program over two days, combining historical re-enactment, crafts, and live entertainment:
A highlight of the weekend, the medieval banquet on Saturday evening brings guests together from 7 PM for a festive meal accompanied by medieval music, dances, and fire shows. An immersive experience that transports participants to the heart of past festivities.
On Sunday at 11 AM, a grand medieval parade crosses the town from the Île d'Esch to the Place Duroc, the historic heart of Pont-à-Mousson. Knights, musicians, merchants, and costumed participants offer a colorful spectacle in the city streets.
The medieval market brings together dozens of artisans and merchants offering jewelry, collectible weapons, leather goods, carved wood, pottery, costumes, old games, and medieval treats. It's an opportunity to discover artisanal skills and leave with a unique souvenir.
Pont-à-Mousson, a historic town between Nancy and Metz, offers an ideal setting for this medieval festival. The Île d'Esch, a vast natural space on the banks of the Moselle, and the Place Duroc with its Renaissance arcades create an authentic backdrop that enhances the medieval immersion.
Pont-à-Mousson is ideally located between Nancy (30 km) and Metz (30 km), in the heart of the Moselle valley. The town is easily accessible by highway and train.
The festival takes place on the magnificent Île d'Esch site, a vast natural green space on the banks of the Moselle. This green haven hosts the medieval camp, combat arenas, artisan stalls, and performance areas. The island's bucolic setting contributes to the medieval immersion.
Saturday from 2 PM to 9 PM, with the medieval banquet in the evening. Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM, with the grand parade at 11 AM from Île d'Esch to Place Duroc. Shows and activities run continuously throughout the day.
Admission is very affordable: 3 euros for the day, 5 euros for the weekend pass. Admission is free for children under 16 and for those attending in medieval costume. This price gives access to all activities, shows, and demonstrations.
On Saturday evening from 7 PM, a medieval banquet is organized with music, dances, and fire shows. The banquet is ticketed (separate price from admission) and reservations are mandatory as places are limited. Information and reservations can be made at the Pont-à-Mousson town hall.
Medieval taverns and food stalls offer old-fashioned dishes, grilled meats, mead, ale, and medieval sweets. Bring cash for the smaller stands.
Come in medieval costume for free entry and total immersion! Wear comfortable shoes suitable for the grassy terrain of Île d'Esch. In case of rain, some activities take place under tents and marquees. Sun protection recommended in good weather.
