Viking festival with historical reenactments, concerts, and activities in Florange
The Fensch Viking Fest is a festival dedicated to the Viking world, held annually at the Bétange complex in Florange, Moselle. Organized by the City of Florange and the association Heiðrún Production, this immersive event features historical reenactment camps, combat and Viking craft demonstrations, folk and metal music concerts, activities for all ages, and a dive into medieval Nordic culture. The festival attracts thousands of history and Viking culture enthusiasts.
The Fensch Viking Fest transforms the Bétange complex in Florange into an authentic Viking village every year. Born from the passion of the association Heiðrún Production and supported by the City of Florange, this unique festival in Lorraine offers a total immersion into the world of medieval Scandinavian warriors and explorers.
Historical reenactment groups set up their camps on site, meticulously recreating the daily life of the Vikings. Visitors discover techniques of blacksmithing, weaving, wood carving, leatherworking, and other traditional Nordic crafts. Sword and shield combat demonstrations recreate the battles of the era, while conferences enlighten the public on the true history of the Vikings, far from Hollywood clichés.
The musical program is a cornerstone of the festival, featuring Viking folk, Nordic metal, and traditional Scandinavian music concerts. Specialized bands perform on stage, creating an epic and enchanting atmosphere. The sounds of traditional instruments—lyres, drums, and horns—mix with distorted guitars for a sonic journey between past and present.
The Fensch Viking Fest offers numerous activities accessible to all ages: axe throwing, historical skill games, Viking jewelry making workshops, archery, and rune initiation. A dedicated children's area allows them to step into the shoes of a young Viking for a day.
The festival's originality lies in its dual approach: it celebrates both historical Vikings through Sagas and reenactment, and fictional Vikings from novels, comics, TV series, films, and video games. This openness allows it to reach a wide audience, from medieval history enthusiasts to fans of the Vikings series.
With the ambition to attract 15,000 visitors, the Fensch Viking Fest has become, in just a few editions, a major event in the cultural and festive life of the Fensch Valley. The festival contributes to the dynamism of Florange, a former steelmaking town that is reinventing itself through culture and events.
