About FIMA Baccarat

FIMA (Festival International des Métiers d'Art) is a biennial event organized in Baccarat, a city world-renowned for its crystal. Created in 2010 on the initiative of Josette Renaux, former mayor of Baccarat, the festival celebrates art crafts through an international contemporary creation competition, a village of 50 exhibiting artisans, and a musical program. The event highlights artisanal know-how in all its forms: glassmaking, jewelry, cabinetmaking, ceramics, textiles, and art restoration.

Baccarat, land of artisanal excellence

The city of Baccarat, world-renowned for its crystal factories founded in 1764, is the natural and symbolic setting for FIMA (Festival International des Métiers d'Art). This biennial event celebrates the excellence of art crafts by bringing together artisans, creators, and enthusiasts in a festival combining exhibitions, competitions, and performances.

An international creation competition

The heart of FIMA is its international contemporary creation competition, which invites artisans from around the world to present original works around a theme renewed for each edition:

  • 2010: "Transparency"
  • 2012: "Reflection"
  • 2014: "Homage" (in memory of Josette Renaux)
  • 2017: 4th edition
  • 2019: "Temporal Reflection" (5th edition)

The competition is open to professional artisans and students from art craft schools, offering an exceptional showcase for young creators.

A village of 50 artisans

The festival hosts an art craft village bringing together about fifty exhibiting artisans who present their know-how and creations:

  • Glass and crystal: glassblowers, stained glass artists, crystal makers.
  • Jewelry and gems: goldsmiths, jewelers, enamellers.
  • Wood and cabinetmaking: sculptors, turners, marquetry artists.
  • Ceramics and clay: potters, faience makers, ceramicists.
  • Textiles and leather: embroiderers, weavers, leatherworkers.
  • Art restoration: heritage conservation specialists.

The legacy of Josette Renaux

FIMA owes its existence to Josette Renaux, former mayor of Baccarat, passionate about art crafts and convinced of the need to promote this living heritage. After her death in May 2013, her daughter Karine Renaux-Cheikh took up the torch to perpetuate this vision. The festival pays tribute to this founder by continuing her mission: promoting artisanal excellence and encouraging contemporary creation.

Music and conviviality

FIMA is not limited to exhibitions: a high-quality musical program accompanies the festival, with open-air concerts that contribute to the festive and friendly atmosphere of the event.
