Great annual traditional fair in Charny-Orée-de-Puisaye, on the 4th Saturday of October
The Foire de la Saint-Simon is the great traditional fair of Charny-Orée-de-Puisaye, organized every year on the fourth Saturday of October, around Saint-Simon's Day. Bringing together up to 120 exhibitors on the Grande Rue and the Pâtis, it combines a commercial fair with spectacular equine presentations, a craft fair, street entertainment, and the traditional concert of the Harmonie de Charny. A must-see in Puisaye-Forterre, it attracts visitors from all over the Yonne department and neighboring departments.
Every year, on the fourth Saturday of October, Charny-Orée-de-Puisaye hosts the Foire de la Saint-Simon, one of the most popular commercial, agricultural, and festive events in northern Yonne. This traditional fair, whose origins date back several centuries, perpetuates the tradition of the great seasonal fairs of Burgundy, organized around patron saint festivals at the turn of autumn.
The fair is spread over two distinct areas that give it its unique character:
The day is marked by a succession of festive and cultural events:
While the Foire de la Saint-Simon preserves its ancestral traditions — hunting horns, animal presentations, rural conviviality — it also knows how to renew itself year after year by incorporating original entertainment. Recent editions have seen the arrival of a lumberjack competition with the lumberjacks of the Plaines de Bourgogne, roaming street artists, and group games. The fair is organized by the municipality of Charny-Orée-de-Puisaye and its municipal team, in close collaboration with local associations.
The municipality of Charny-Orée-de-Puisaye, born from the merger of several villages in Puisaye, is at the heart of a bocage and pond landscape characteristic of northern Burgundy. This rural region, with its preserved atmosphere, is particularly known for having inspired the writer Colette, a native of nearby Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye.
The Foire de la Saint-Simon 2026 will be held on Saturday, October 24th in Charny-Orée-de-Puisaye. This major traditional fair of Puisaye will bring together over a hundred exhibitors on the Grande Rue, with equine presentations on the Pâtis, hunting horns, festive entertainment, and the concert of the Harmonie de Charny. Free admission.
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, Charny-Orée-de-Puisaye will host a new edition of its Foire de la Saint-Simon, true to the tradition of the great autumn fairs of Burgundy. From 10 a.m., the traditional concert of the hunting horns of the Rallye Puisaye will kick off the event, under the colors of an autumn sky.
The day will be structured around two complementary spaces: the Grande Rue with its numerous exhibitors (artisans, local producers, shops) and the Pâtis with its equine presentations and funfair. Street entertainment, shows, and the concert by the Harmonie de Charny will punctuate the day. The exhibition and competition of "Marie Jo" craftsmanship will highlight the artisanal know-how of the region. Full program to be confirmed on the town's website.
