The bilingual comedy festival that makes Méribel laugh in French and English
The Franglish Comedy Festival is a unique bilingual comedy festival held every February in Méribel, in the heart of the Three Valleys ski area. Created in 2024, this event brings together French-speaking and English-speaking comedians for four days in a joyous linguistic and cultural mosaic: French comedians performing in English, British comedians speaking French, and artists performing in their native language. The Méribel auditorium hosts galas, solo shows, dinner shows, and late shows in a relaxed and cosmopolitan atmosphere.
The Franglish Comedy Festival was born in 2024 in Méribel, the quintessential cosmopolitan resort in the French Alps. The founding idea: to create a comedy festival that celebrates the meeting of French-speaking and English-speaking cultures, by bringing together comedians on the same stage who play with languages, accents, and cultural misunderstandings. In a resort where French, British, Dutch, and tourists from around the world mingle daily, the concept found an immediate echo.
For four days, the Méribel auditorium transforms into a temple of bilingual laughter. The shows take various forms: group galas bringing several comedians together on stage, one-man shows and one-woman shows, dinner shows at the Cromagnon restaurant, and late shows at The Lodge to extend the laughter late into the night. This diversity of formats allows us to reach all audiences, from holidaying families to night owls.
What makes the Franglish Comedy Festival unique is its playful approach to languages. The festival features French comedians performing in English, British and American comedians who speak French, and artists who navigate between the two languages within the same show. This linguistic gymnastics generates a unique humor, fueled by cultural differences, misunderstandings, and bilingual puns.
For its 3rd edition in 2026, the festival has announced a "Plateau de Rire" (Comedy Showcase) featuring AZ, Rémi Marceau, Sébastien Marx, and Bruno Peki for the opening gala in French. Other headliners will be unveiled in the weeks leading up to the festival, completing a lineup that mixes sure bets from the French stand-up scene with talents from the English-speaking comedy scene.
Méribel, founded in 1938 by a Scotsman — Peter Lindsay — and historically frequented by an international clientele, provides the ideal setting for a festival that celebrates the mix of cultures. The resort, which hosts a significant British community every winter — seasonal workers, instructors, holidaymakers — experiences this French-English cohabitation daily, which the festival stages with humor and goodwill.
The Franglish Comedy Festival is part of a dynamic of diversifying the winter cultural offerings of alpine resorts, proving that laughter, like snow, knows no borders.
