The international mountain and adventure film festival in Tarentaise
Born in 2021 in the heart of the Tarentaise valley, the Xplore Alpes Festival has, in just a few editions, become the unmissable event for mountain and adventure cinema in the French Alps. For ten days between October and November, the festival unfolds its program across twelve municipalities in Haute-Tarentaise, centered around Bourg-Saint-Maurice, featuring screenings of adventure and outdoor sports films, encounters with directors and protagonists, thematic talks on mountain issues, and a festive village animated by passionate volunteers. The Xplore Content Market, a professional market for mountain content, brings together producers, broadcasters, and creators annually at the Base Camp Lodge in Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
The Xplore Alpes Festival is a competitive festival dedicated to mountain, adventure, and outdoor films. Created in 2021 in the Tarentaise valley in Savoie, it has quickly established itself as a major event for outdoor cinema in France and internationally, welcoming works from around the world: documentaries, short films, medium-length films, and web series exploring the mountains from all angles.
The originality of the Xplore Alpes Festival lies in its traveling format, spread across twelve municipalities in Haute-Tarentaise between Aime and Bourg-Saint-Maurice. This territorial immersion allows spectators to discover films in emblematic locations of the valley: cinemas, village halls, refuges, and mountain spaces. The Cœur d'Or cinema in Bourg-Saint-Maurice serves as the festival's nerve center, hosting the main screenings and award ceremonies.
The festival offers around a hundred films selected from hundreds of international submissions. The works cover a wide range of themes: mountaineering, skiing, trail running, climbing, kayaking, paragliding, exploration, environment, resilience, and strong human stories. An exceptional jury awards the Xplore Awards in several categories. The directors and protagonists of the selected films are invited to the festival to present their works and interact with the audience.
Launched in 2023, the Xplore Content Market is the professional arm of the festival. This mountain content market brings together producers, broadcasters, outdoor brands, and content creators for two days at the Base Camp Lodge in Bourg-Saint-Maurice for pitching sessions, networking, and preview screenings. It is gradually establishing itself as a strategic hub for the adventure film industry.
Beyond the screenings, the festival organizes talks — thematic round tables dedicated to the major issues facing the mountains: ecological transition, the future of mountain tourism, coexistence between outdoor sports and environmental preservation, the place of women in adventure. These exchange sessions, open to all, foster collective reflection and make the festival a true laboratory of ideas.
The Xplore Alpes Festival dedicates an entire week to schoolchildren, with screenings and educational workshops for students from the Tarentaise valley. This educational initiative aims to raise awareness among younger generations about the environmental and cultural issues of the mountains through cinema.
The 6th edition of the Xplore Alpes Festival will be held from October 24 to November 1, 2026, in the Tarentaise valley. The festival will continue its mission of celebrating the mountains through adventure cinema, with screenings, encounters, talks, and the Xplore Content Market on October 29 and 30 at the Base Camp Lodge in Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
