Nautical sport, sailing in Saint-Florent, Haute-Corse
The Giraglia Rolex Cup — today the Loro Piana Giraglia — is one of the great classics of Mediterranean sailing. Created in 1953, this regatta owes its name to the rocky islet of Giraglia, located off Cap Corse in northern Corsica, which the fleet rounds during the offshore race. The event combines coastal regattas in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez with an offshore race connecting Saint-Tropez to Genoa.
Born in 1953, the Giraglia (which became Rolex Giraglia, then Loro Piana Giraglia since 2024) is one of the most prestigious regattas in the Mediterranean. Conceived to renew ties between France and Italy after World War II, its first edition connected Cannes to Sanremo, rounding the islet of Giraglia, off Cap Corse — it is this emblematic rock that gave its name to the race.
Today, the event takes place over a week and combines two highlights: a series of coastal regattas in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, followed by an offshore race of 241 nautical miles between Saint-Tropez and Genoa, which passes off Cap Corse, rounding the islet of Giraglia. The awards ceremony is held in Genoa, at the headquarters of the Yacht Club Italiano.
The regatta is jointly organized by the Yacht Club Italiano (Genoa), the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, and the Yacht Club de France. Each year, it brings together an international fleet of modern monohulls, including IMOCAs and Maxis.
The 73rd edition of the Giraglia Rolex Cup (now named Loro Piana Giraglia) takes place from June 12 to 20, 2026. This great classic of Mediterranean sailing brings together coastal regattas in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, followed by the mythical offshore race Saint-Tropez — Giraglia islet (off Cap Corse) — Genoa.
