The Christmas Village in the heart of the Plaine de France Val d'Oise
Every December, Goussainville organizes its Christmas Village, combining a craft market and a show program for families. Artisans and producers offer their creations in decorated chalets, while musical entertainment and light shows adorn the town for the holidays. This festive event brings together the inhabitants of this dynamic town in the Val-d'Oise, near Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport.
Goussainville is one of the most important towns in the north of Val-d'Oise. Located in the Plaine de France, a few kilometers from Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle international airport, it is both a growing residential town and a strategic economic hub. The town is home to the rare Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul Church of Vieux Goussainville, a former village swallowed up during the construction of the airport, a true ghost village whose medieval ruins are a unique testament to the history of the Val-d'Oise. In December, Goussainville celebrates Christmas with its Christmas Village, bringing magic and conviviality to its inhabitants.
The Goussainville Christmas Village brings together artisans, creators, and producers in decorative chalets set up in the town center. The artisanal offer is varied and reflects the cultural diversity of the town: handmade decorative objects, designer jewelry, textiles and fashion accessories, scented candles, natural cosmetics, and leather goods. Gourmet stands offer a selection of seasonal specialties — fine chocolates, artisanal nougats, gingerbread, jams, and condiments — as well as traditional hot drinks from the Christmas market: mulled wine with spices, creamy hot chocolate, and non-alcoholic punches for children.
The program for the Goussainville Christmas Village is rich in entertainment for the whole family. Street performances are offered regularly: light jugglers, acrobats in sparkling costumes, and Christmas theater troupes enchant young and old alike. Choir concerts — school choirs, adult vocal ensembles, gospel choirs — liven up the outdoor spaces with festive and moving repertoires. Children have a special program: craft workshops, storytelling around the nativity scene, and a meeting with Santa Claus for souvenir photos and the delivery of wish letters.
Like all the towns in the Val-d'Oise, Goussainville deploys a program of illuminations for the holidays that transforms the town center into an enchanting tableau. The shopping streets, squares, and public buildings are adorned with fairy lights and decorative installations that create a magical atmosphere as soon as night falls. These illuminations, lit since the beginning of Advent and maintained until mid-January, make Goussainville's winter evenings particularly festive and pleasant for strollers and families.
Goussainville's geographical location, at the crossroads of several important communication routes, makes it an accessible town from all over the Île-de-France region. The town's unique history, marked by the construction of Roissy airport and the disappearance of the old village, gives it a singular identity between modernity and memory. The cemetery of Old Goussainville, with its tombs still emerging from the encroaching vegetation, has become a place of memory and a tourist attraction that the inhabitants proudly claim as the unusual heritage of their town.
