Graines de Moutards: Culture Celebrated for the Children of Grand Figeac
Since 2011, the Graines de Moutards cultural fortnight has illuminated the winter holidays for families in Grand Figeac, in the Lot department. Organized by L'Astrolabe Grand-Figeac, the cultural service of the community of communes, in collaboration with a collective of about fifteen cultural partners, this unique event transforms the entire region into a playground for discovery for children aged 0 to 14 for two weeks.
A Collective of Committed Cultural Partners
The richness of Graines de Moutards lies in the diversity of its partners, including the Antenne d'Oc, the Artothèque du Lot, the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, the Centre social Nicole-Paulo, Ciné Lot, L'Arrosoir, Lire à Figeac, La LoCollective, the Ludothèque, the Maison des Arts Georges et Claude Pompidou, the Musée Champollion, the Office de Tourisme, the Parc Naturel Régional des Causses du Quercy, Pays d'art et d'histoire, REISSA, and Rêvons nos villages. Each contributes its expertise and resources to create a vibrant and varied program.
A Multidisciplinary and Inventive Program
Each edition of Graines de Moutards is built around an original theme that guides the entire program. Families can discover:
- Creative workshops: visual arts, puppet making, theatrical chairs, collective frescoes, trompe-l'oeil, braille, and sensory experiences.
- Young audience cinema: special screenings, previews, and thematic projections in local cinemas.
- Live performances: theater, storytelling, musical readings, concerts, and performances adapted for younger audiences.
- Heritage games and tours: at the Musée Champollion, Château d'Assier, and remarkable sites in Grand Figeac.
- Participatory games and activities: Just Dance on a big screen, Color Run, giant board games, parties, and costume balls.
- Scientific discoveries: experiments, awareness workshops, and nature explorations in connection with the Regional Natural Park.
A Festival Spread Across Grand Figeac
One of the unique features of Graines de Moutards is its reach beyond the city of Figeac. Activities take place in about twelve towns in the region, including Capdenac-Gare, Cajarc, Assier, Latronquière, Leyme, Béduer, Bagnac-sur-Célé, and Felzins. This itinerant approach reaches a rural audience, promotes local cultural facilities (libraries, community halls, museums), and fosters social connection throughout Grand Figeac.
An Unmissable Family Event
With over 1,400 young participants each year and steadily growing attendance, Graines de Moutards has become the essential cultural event for families during the winter holidays in the Lot. Prices remain very affordable, with most activities costing between 3 and 9 euros, and some being completely free. The festival thus confirms Grand Figeac's commitment to making culture accessible to all from the youngest age, in a joyful, participatory, and welcoming spirit.
