The great celebration of the Périgord walnut in Quercy
Nestled on the Causse de Gramat, in the north of the Lot department, the village of Thégra is located in the heart of a territory historically linked to walnut tree cultivation. The Périgord walnut, benefiting from an Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP - Protected Designation of Origin), is one of the flagship products of this region where walnut groves have shaped the landscape for centuries. It is in this authentic setting that the association Thégra Animation organizes the Fête de la Noix every autumn, an unmissable event for lovers of local produce and conviviality.
On the last Sunday of October, the village of Thégra transforms into a vast open-air market. About sixty exhibitors — walnut producers, artisans, creators, and food lovers — take over the village streets to offer their specialties. The walnut oil mill operates all day, allowing visitors to witness the artisanal production of this precious oil with its characteristic taste. Nearby, an apple press produces fresh juice, while the wood-fired bread oven fills the alleys with its warm aromas.
The festival opens at 9 AM with the setup of exhibitors and the opening of the market. At 11:30 AM, a key moment brings visitors together in the village square: the unveiling and exhibition of the giant walnut cake, made by a local pastry chef, which impresses every year with its spectacular size. The gourmet market and the meal under the marquee, accompanied by a banda, take place from noon to 2 PM. The afternoon is dedicated to the famous walnut dessert competition, judged by a jury of professionals, as well as the nut-gathering competition for children and the giant pumpkin weight estimation contest.
Bandas and stilt walkers parade through the streets, creating a joyful and colorful atmosphere. The youngest ones can enjoy free rides, carriage and pony rides, as well as face painting sessions. Lovers of mechanical heritage can admire an exhibition of vintage cars and tractors. An art exhibition is also offered at the Maison des artistes. The day concludes around 5:30 PM with the award ceremony for the various competitions.
Supported by the association Thégra Animation and the municipality of Thégra, the Fête de la Noix has seen growing success year after year thanks to the involvement of many volunteers. Since its creation in 1999, this free and family-friendly event has established itself as one of the major autumn events in the Lot, attracting visitors from all over the department and beyond. Amidst the aromas of crêpes, roasted chestnuts, walnut oil, and cider, the Fête de la Noix de Thégra offers a gourmet and warm interlude in the heart of the Causse de Gramat.
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, the village of Thégra will host the 28th edition of the Fête de la Noix. From 9 AM to 5:30 PM, the village will transform into a vast open-air market celebrating the Périgord walnut and the flavors of the Quercy region.
