The bilingual Franco-English literary festival in the heart of Quercy blanc
Festilitt is an extraordinary festival: born in a small village in Quercy blanc, it celebrates the meeting between French and English-language literatures every October in a rural and intimate setting. Parisot (82160), a commune of a few hundred inhabitants perched on the hillsides of Tarn-et-Garonne, transforms for a weekend into a true bilingual capital of literature.
Festilitt's unique feature is its declared Franco-English dimension. French-speaking and English-speaking authors meet, read their works in their own language, engage with the public, and participate in cross-cultural workshops. This bilingual ambition reflects the reality of the region: Quercy blanc has hosted a significant community of British expatriates for several decades, who have forged deep ties with the local population. Festilitt is, in a way, the literary celebration of this dual cultural identity.
Past editions have hosted fiction authors, poets, essayists, and illustrators from France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and other English-speaking countries. The program mixes established authors and emerging voices, in a spirit of discovery and exchange.
Over two days, Festilitt offers a rich and varied program:
What sets Festilitt apart is the involvement of the entire village in the event. The inhabitants of Parisot welcome the authors, participate in the activities, and make this weekend a true community celebration. The village lanes, squares, and gardens are transformed into spaces for reading and meeting, creating a unique atmosphere where literature invites itself into every corner.
The festival attracts over 800 visitors each year from across the department and beyond, demonstrating a growing loyalty to this unique event that proves culture can shine from the smallest villages.
All Festilitt events are completely free. This free access is a founding choice of the organizers, who want the festival to be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, social background, or language proficiency. Specific activities for children and families make Festilitt an intergenerational event par excellence.
