More than 60 exhibitors for plant and garden lovers
Every autumn, the small town of Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave, nestled at the confluence of the Tarn and Garonne rivers in Tarn-et-Garonne, transforms for a day into a true paradise for plant and gardening enthusiasts. The Foire aux Plantes, organized by the Salicaire association, brings together over 60 exhibitors from across the region and beyond to offer an exceptional selection of plants, seeds, medicinal plants, and garden accessories.
The Salicaire association, whose name evokes the elegant wetland plant so prevalent in the meadows of Tarn-et-Garonne, has set itself the mission of promoting the cultivation of plants in all their diversity—ornamental, vegetable, aromatic, medicinal—while fostering knowledge exchange between professionals and amateur gardeners.
The strength of the Foire aux Plantes de Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave lies in the diversity and quality of its exhibitors. You will find:
Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave is not just a pleasant location for a plant fair; it is a town steeped in history. Its medieval castle, overlooking the confluence of the Tarn and Garonne, and its Romanesque church provide a particularly charming backdrop for this autumn event. The town is also known as the birthplace of Pierre-Antoine Laclède, founder of St. Louis in Missouri, giving it a unique transatlantic historical link.
Autumn in Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave often benefits from mild and bright weather, conducive to strolling among the stalls, discussing with exhibitors, and purchasing plants to be planted before the first frosts. It is the ideal season for trees, shrubs, and bulbs for spring flowering.
Beyond the commercial aspect, the Foire aux Plantes de Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave is distinguished by its friendly and participatory atmosphere. The exhibitors, mostly passionate, take the time to explain the specifics of the plants they offer, and to give advice on cultivation and maintenance. Demonstrations and small workshops punctuate the day, particularly focusing on natural gardening, permaculture, and fruit tree pruning.
Admission is completely free, and the event is accessible to families. The presence of colorful and fragrant plants, ambient music, and the warm atmosphere of open-air markets make it a highly appreciated outing for the inhabitants of Tarn-et-Garonne and neighboring departments.
