About Les Instants Baroques du Lot
Les Instants Baroques du Lot brings the music of the 17th and 18th centuries to life within the churches and collegiate buildings of the Lot, centered around Thégra, Castelnau-Bretenoux, and Saint-Céré. The festival is organized by the Lot et Art Baroque association, founded in January 2023, and places a special emphasis on the viola da gamba. Each concert is typically preceded by a presentation of the venue by a tour guide from the Pays d'art et d'histoire Vallée de la Dordogne.

A festival born from a luthier's vision
The festival was inspired by François Danger, a luthier specializing in the viola da gamba who settled in the Lot with his partner, Brigitte Herbille, in 2016. Upon discovering the baroque heritage of the region's small churches, he envisioned a festival of early music held within these very spaces. He passed away in 2019 before he could bring the project to fruition.
Brigitte Herbille later took up the mantle with a group of amateur musician friends. The Lot et Art Baroque association was established in January 2023, and Stéphan Perreau joined the team shortly after. The inaugural edition of the festival took place in June 2023.
Concerts set against the backdrop of the Lot's heritage
Every concert is hosted in a different church or collegiate building. The viola da gamba remains the heart of the program, serving as a tribute to François Danger, alongside other instruments and vocal works from the baroque repertoire.
