The art of war and courtly jousting

The Grand Tournoi de Chevalerie is a breathtaking equestrian show that transports the audience to the heart of the Middle Ages. In the lists of the Cité de Carcassonne, at the foot of the ancient ramparts, 8 mounted knights clash relentlessly to the rhythm of horses and the clash of weapons. The show combines the art of war, courtly jousts, equestrian stunts, acrobatics, and sword fights in a grand staging that revives the medieval tournaments of yesteryear. All accompanied by lively narration that immerses spectators in the chivalrous world of the 13th century.

An incomparable historical setting

The show takes place in the lists — the space between the two rampart enclosures of the Cité — an absolutely unique historical setting that gives the tournament striking authenticity. The seated and shaded grandstands offer a perfect view of the arena where the riders and their steeds perform. The natural backdrop of the walls of the medieval City, a UNESCO World Heritage site, adds a spectacular dimension to each performance. This blend of live performance and ancient heritage makes the Tournoi de Chevalerie an incomparable immersive experience.

A professional equestrian company

The Grand Tournoi de Chevalerie is produced by a professional equestrian company specializing in medieval shows. The riders and their steeds are trained in the arts of stunts, acrobatics, and stage combat, ensuring a high-quality visual spectacle. The company Les Crinières d'Evol, founded in 2014 in Carcassonne, is behind this venture. Composed of six artists and four steeds, it has developed unique expertise over the seasons, combining equestrian arts, stunts, and historical narration.

A show for the whole family

Lasting 45 minutes, the Tournoi de Chevalerie is designed to appeal to all audiences, from the youngest to the oldest. Three performances are offered each day at 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. (every day except Saturday), allowing everyone to find a suitable time slot. The accessible prices — free for under 5s, €6 for ages 5-10, and €12 for over 10s — make it a family show par excellence. More than 60,000 spectators attend this unmissable medieval event every summer.
