The Grigny Creole Christmas Market enlivens the center of this popular Essonne commune (91350) every December. Organized by the City of Grigny, Place Henri Barbusse, this festive and warm event celebrates the city's cultural diversity through a market with Creole and Antillean flavors: culinary specialties, exotic drinks, crafts, textiles, and gift ideas coexist with the end-of-year holiday atmosphere. Access is free for everyone.
Every December, the City of Grigny (91350) organizes its Creole Christmas Market on Place Henri Barbusse, in the heart of this Essonne commune. With its approximately 28,000 inhabitants, Grigny is one of the most populated and dynamic towns in southern Essonne. Its Christmas market reflects the cultural richness of this commune, whose origins date back to antiquity, but whose contemporary history is marked by the construction of the famous Grande Borne, a bold architectural complex designed by Émile Aillaud in the 1960s-1970s.
The originality of the Grigny Christmas Market lies in its Creole and Afro-Caribbean character. This festive event celebrates the city's cultural diversity: Creole and Antillean culinary specialties, exotic drinks, Caribbean crafts coexist with gift ideas and decorative items. Creole boudin, accras, colombo, rhum arrangé, and other island flavors are among the products offered by exhibitors, alongside stands of jewelry, textiles, and crafts.
The market is held at the Sidney Bechet Cultural Center, Place Henri Barbusse, in a festive and friendly atmosphere, with free access for all. The event, which was in its 12th edition in December 2025 (Saturday, December 13, from 11 am to 7 pm), brings together exhibitors, families, and residents each year around the end-of-year holidays.
Grigny is a multifaceted city: its history is ancient (Gallo-Roman remains), but it is best known for the Grande Borne, a vast complex of social housing classified as a Historic Monument for its unique architecture. The Château de Grigny, the banks of the Seine, and numerous cultural associations complete the portrait of a lively and endearing city. The Creole Christmas market is part of this community vitality.
The Grigny Christmas Market will return in December 2026 at the Grand Cœur de Ville. The Creole Christmas Market, artisanal chalets, and festive events will once again reflect the town's cultural diversity. Dates and program to be announced in autumn 2026.
