Jazz festival at the Thionville Theatre
The Jazzpote Festival is a jazz festival organized in Thionville by the association JAZZPOTE (Portes Ouvertes sur Thionville et Environs), composed entirely of volunteers. Created in 2004, the festival offers several days of jazz concerts at the Municipal Theatre of Thionville and outdoors at the beginning of summer, accompanied by exhibitions, film screenings, and conferences. For nearly twenty years, Jazzpote has contributed to the radiance of jazz in Thionville and the north of Moselle, becoming a popular event for jazz lovers in the Greater Region.
The Jazzpote Festival was born in 2004 from the passion of a group of volunteers united within the association JAZZPOTE (Portes Ouvertes sur Thionville et Environs), officially created in July 2003. For nearly two decades, this festival has been the main jazz event in Thionville and the north of Moselle, attracting a loyal and enthusiastic audience.
The festival mainly took place at the Théâtre municipal de Thionville, offering an elegant setting and quality acoustics for the concerts. The program mixed internationally renowned artists and regional talents, covering different jazz styles: swing, bebop, contemporary jazz, fusion jazz, vocal jazz, and world jazz.
Jazzpote was not limited to indoor concerts. The festival also offered free outdoor concerts, photographic exhibitions on the theme of jazz, documentary film screenings, and conferences led by specialists. This diversity of formats allowed for exploring jazz from all angles and reaching a varied audience.
One of the remarkable features of the Jazzpote Festival is that it was entirely organized by volunteers. This associative and activist dimension gave the event a special authenticity and human warmth. The association members put their energy and passion into promoting jazz, without any remuneration.
Located near the Luxembourgish and German borders, the Jazzpote Festival benefited from cross-border reach, attracting spectators from Luxembourg, Germany, and Belgium. This international dimension, reinforced by the programming of artists from all over Europe and overseas, made the festival a major cultural event in the Greater Region.
After 20 years of jazz programming through the festival and other concerts, the volunteer team of the Jazzpote association has decided to take a step back. The festival remains anchored in the cultural memory of Thionville as an event that contributed to keeping jazz alive in Moselle and creating a community of passionate music lovers.
