Jazz Festival in Thionville (Thionville Jazz Festival)
The Jazzpote Festival is Thionville's historic jazz festival, organized by the JAZZPOTE association (Portes Ouvertes sur Thionville et Environs), made up of volunteers. Created in 2004, it celebrated its 18th editions until 2023. Since 2025, the adventure continues under the name Thionville Jazz Festival, still run by the same team: three days of concerts at the Thionville Municipal Theater and free open-air concerts, in early July, mixing international headliners and regional talents in a friendly atmosphere in the heart of the Greater Region (Lorraine, Luxembourg, Germany, Belgium).
Born in 2004 from the passion of a group of volunteers gathered within the JAZZPOTE association (Portes Ouvertes sur Thionville et Environs), the festival has become in nearly twenty years the main jazz event in Thionville and northern Moselle. After 18 editions under the name « Jazzpote Festival » (the last one in July 2023), the volunteer team has evolved the event, now presented under the name Thionville Jazz Festival while remaining organized by the same association.
The festival mainly takes place at the Thionville Municipal Theater, which offers an elegant setting and remarkable acoustics for evening concerts. The program mixes internationally renowned artists and regional talents, covering the different aesthetics of jazz: swing, contemporary jazz, gypsy jazz, jazz fusion, and world music.
The festival is not limited to indoor concerts. Many free open-air concerts are offered on the Theater's forecourt and Place Anne-Grommerch, as well as brass bands and street jazz formations in the city center. Food trucks are set up on site and free « after shows » extend each evening. This diversity of formats allows reaching a wide audience, from connoisseurs to families.
One of the characteristics of the festival is that it is entirely run by volunteers. This associative dimension gives the event a particular authenticity and warmth: the members of the association put their energy and passion into promoting jazz.
Located near the Luxembourg and German borders, the festival benefits from a cross-border reach and attracts spectators from Luxembourg, Germany, and Belgium. This international dimension, reinforced by a program of artists from all over Europe and across the Atlantic, makes it a major cultural event in the Greater Region.
2026 edition of the Thionville jazz festival, now presented under the name Thionville Jazz Festival by the JAZZPOTE association, from Thursday, July 2 to Saturday, July 4, 2026. Three evenings of concerts at the Municipal Theater (Lazcar Volcano & Sanseverino, Vincent Peirani, Al Di Meola) and numerous free open-air concerts in the city center.
For this edition from July 2 to 4, 2026, the JAZZPOTE association offers a program that mixes international headliners, new energies, and festive moments. Paid concerts take place in the evening at the Thionville Municipal Theater, while numerous free concerts enliven the Theater forecourt, Place Anne-Grommerch, and the city center. Food trucks are set up on site and free after-shows extend each evening.
