Christmas magic with markets, ice rink, mapping, and Saint-Nicolas parade in Thionville
The Thionville Christmas Market transforms the city center into a magical wonderland for over a month, from late November to early January. Spread across several squares – Anne Grommerch, Claude Arnoult, au Bois, and Saint-Maximin – the event features artisan chalets, a gourmet village, a children's village, a synthetic ice rink, and a light mapping show projected onto the Town Hall facade. The Saint-Nicolas parade in early December is the highlight of these festivities, attracting visitors from all over Moselle-Nord and neighboring Luxembourg.
Every year from late November to early January, Thionville sparkles with its most beautiful lights to welcome its Christmas Market. Spread across several squares in the city center, the event offers a complete festive experience that delights families, food lovers, and craft enthusiasts.
The Christmas Market unfolds across four squares, each with a distinct atmosphere:
The facade of the Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall) lights up every evening with a video mapping show that immerses spectators in a magical universe of lights and animations. This free show is one of the highlights of each evening.
On the first Sunday of December, the traditional Saint-Nicolas parade winds through the city center streets. The festive procession, with its illuminated floats and costumed characters, culminates with the arrival of Saint-Nicolas, who distributes gingerbread and treats to children. A free philharmonic concert at the theater precedes the parade.
The Beffroi (Belfry) hosts art and craft markets on weekends in December, featuring local creators offering jewelry, ceramics, decorations, and handmade items. These pop-up markets complement the offerings of the permanent chalets.
