Discover Saint-Étienne and Loire heritage over an exceptional weekend
Every third weekend of September, the European Heritage Days open the doors of hundreds of remarkable sites in Saint-Étienne and the Loire. Historical monuments, municipal archives, museums, industrial buildings, and religious edifices welcome the public for free guided tours, family treasure hunts, and cultural activities. A City of Art and History, Saint-Étienne reveals its architectural treasures on this occasion, from its mining past to its Art Deco heritage, including its 41 classified historical monuments in the city center.
Created in 1984 by the Ministry of Culture, the European Heritage Days is France's largest participatory cultural event. In the Loire department, this event takes on a special dimension thanks to the richness and diversity of local heritage: industrial architecture, castles of Forez, medieval religious buildings, national museums, and remarkable natural sites.
Each year, a national theme unites the activities offered throughout the territory. In 2025, the theme "Architectural Heritage" highlighted the built heritage of Saint-Étienne and the Loire, while the 2026 edition will focus on the theme "Heritage in Danger".
Labeled a City of Art and History, Saint-Étienne offers an exceptional heritage tour during these days. Visitors can discover:
