Concerts, shows and conviviality on the Mézenc plateau in Fay-sur-Lignon
Le P'tit Festival sur Lignon is a friendly and family-oriented festival born in 2022 in Fay-sur-Lignon, on the Mézenc plateau in Haute-Loire. Heir to the Festival sur Lignon created in 1999, it is driven by a new team of passionate volunteers. Every summer in July, for four days, the Place du Foirail and the Ferme de Mathias host world music and chanson concerts, live shows, costumed karaoke, dances, an artisan market, and a giant brunch. The event celebrates culture, local crafts, and gastronomy in a warm atmosphere, at an altitude of over 1,000 meters.
Le P'tit Festival sur Lignon was born in 2022 in Fay-sur-Lignon, a village of character perched at over 1,000 meters altitude on the plateau du Mézenc, in Haute-Loire. It follows on from the Festival sur Lignon, founded in 1999 by Annie and Daniel Fanger within the Association des Rencontres Culturelles des Hauts Plateaux, which enlivened the village summers for twenty editions until 2018. After a three-year break, a new team of volunteers decided to revive the event under the affectionate name of “P'tit Festival”, with the same ambition: to bring together locals, summer visitors, and tourists around music, live performance, and sharing.
Every summer, generally the third week of July, Le P'tit Festival sur Lignon takes over the Place du Foirail, in the heart of the village, and the Ferme de Mathias, an old stone building whose barn with its beautiful wooden frame hosts artists and spectators in an intimate and warm setting. For four days, from Thursday to Sunday, there are concerts, company shows, dances, wild karaoke sessions, and open stages, in an eclectic program mixing French chanson, Balkan music, Mediterranean polyphony, folk, and world music.
Le P'tit Festival is not just about music. It showcases local crafts with a creators' market — ceramists, jewelers, tailors, blacksmiths, cabinetmakers, and glassblowers — held on Sundays in the heart of the village. Gastronomy also plays a key role: a “Les Délices du Mézenc” buffet is offered on Friday evenings, while the 100% homemade giant Sunday brunch concludes the festival in a gourmet and family atmosphere. A refreshment bar is open every day to accompany the festivities.
What makes Le P'tit Festival sur Lignon strong is its participatory spirit. Open stages invite amateur musicians and enthusiasts to perform, initiations to traditional and ballroom dancing bring together all generations, and the costumed karaoke transforms each spectator into a star for an evening. The event is driven by committed volunteers who work to keep culture alive in this rural mountain region, in partnership with the Association 45ème Parallèle, which enriches the program with an artisan market and additional activities.
Fay-sur-Lignon, formerly Fay-le-Froid, is a village in the Haut-Lignon region crossed by the Lignon du Velay river, renowned for its mountain landscapes, its high-altitude meadows where the Fin Gras du Mézenc (AOP) grazes, and its volcanic stone heritage. The festival takes place in this magnificent setting, between volcanic peaks and fir forests, offering festival-goers a cultural and rural interlude far from the urban hustle and bustle, in the pure air of the Mézenc plateau.
