About Été du Prieuré

L'Été du Prieuré is a living arts festival held annually at the Prieuré de Saint-Rambert, in the courtyard of the Musée des Civilisations Daniel Pouget in Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert (Loire). Created in 2006, this friendly and participatory event is a moment of sharing offered by local artists. The variety of disciplines — cabaret and song on Friday evening, choir, medieval dance, theater, and music on Saturday — makes it a time to discover the talents and artistic practices of the region. Organized on a voluntary basis in the exceptional setting of the medieval priory, the festival traditionally takes place on the third weekend of September, in conjunction with the European Heritage Days.

A Living Arts Event in the Heart of Medieval Heritage

L'Été du Prieuré was born in 2006 from the desire to bring the Prieuré de Saint-Rambert, a jewel of the medieval heritage of Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert, to life. Every year, in September, the courtyard of the Musée des Civilisations Daniel Pouget and the lower priory hall are transformed into an open-air stage to host a living arts festival powered by local volunteer artists. This moment of sharing and discovery embodies the spirit of the historic Saint-Rambert district, where heritage and artistic creation meet.

Two Evenings of Varied Performances

The festival unfolds over two days with an eclectic program. On Friday evening, a cabaret brings together singers and musicians who take turns creating a varied program mixing French chanson, covers, and original creations. On Saturday, the program is enriched by the performance of the Chorale de Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert, a medieval dance show echoing the historic setting of the priory, theater performances, and music concerts with local groups.

A Participatory Festival Driven by Local Artists

The originality of L'Été du Prieuré lies in its deeply participatory and local nature. The artists performing are from the Forez region: amateur and semi-professional choristers, dancers, actors, and musicians share their passion with the public in a warm atmosphere with no barriers between stage and audience. The festival is entirely organized on a voluntary basis, in a spirit of conviviality and artistic discovery accessible to all.

The Exceptional Setting of the Prieuré de Saint-Rambert

The festival takes place in a remarkable heritage setting. The Prieuré de Saint-Rambert, founded in the Middle Ages, now houses the Musée des Civilisations Daniel Pouget, which presents art collections from Asia, Africa, Oceania, and America over nearly 2,000 m². The museum courtyard, on Place Madeleine Rousseau, offers an ideal open-air setting for performances, while the lower priory hall hosts some indoor shows. The medieval district of Saint-Rambert, with its ramparts and narrow streets, completes this immersion in history and culture.
