Open-air theatre and champagne tasting at Château de Taisne in Les Riceys
The Les Divergents Theatre Festival is an open-air theatre festival that takes place every summer at Château de Taisne, in Les Riceys, Aube. Supported by the Compagnie des Divergents and the association Du Haut d'une Étoile, the event offers three open-air performances in the exceptional setting of the castle park, blending classical repertoire and original creations. The performances are accompanied by champagne and Rosé des Riceys tastings, one of France's rarest appellations.
The Les Divergents Theatre Festival was born from the encounter between the Compagnie des Divergents — led by Caroline and Romain — and the association Du Haut d'une Étoile, based in Les Riceys. For several years, the company has been carrying out a summer artistic residency in the town, preparing performances that will later be presented at the Avignon Festival. It was in this context that the Les Divergents festival was created, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to discover quality theatre in an exceptional heritage setting.
The festival unfolds in the park of Château de Taisne, a haven of greenery and history in the heart of Les Riceys. Three performances are offered each day of the festival, at different times, allowing spectators to tailor their theatre day: one play in the early afternoon, one in the late afternoon, and one in the evening. The repertoire draws from the great classics — Molière (Le Malade Imaginaire), Marivaux (Les Acteurs de bonne foi), Shakespeare — but also from original creations and contemporary adaptations.
One of the festival's unique features is the alliance of theatre and wine. Between performances, a tasting area offers champagnes, Rosé des Riceys — one of the rarest and most prestigious appellations in France — and Coteaux Champenois produced locally. Visitors can also dine on-site thanks to the "Les plats d'Isa" catering service (by reservation), extending the theatrical experience in a gourmet and friendly atmosphere.
Les Riceys, the only commune in France to benefit from three protected designations of origin (Champagne, Coteaux Champenois, and Rosé des Riceys), provides an ideal setting for this festival that combines living art and the art of living. The Château de Taisne, located at 1 rue de l'Île, offers a striking natural backdrop for open-air performances, with its gardens, century-old trees, and bucolic atmosphere.
The Les Divergents Theatre Festival 2026 is expected in August at Château de Taisne in Les Riceys. Three open-air performances will be offered each day, accompanied by champagne and Rosé des Riceys tastings.
