Trail des Cadoles
Trail in the heart of the vineyards and cadoles of Les Riceys
2026
About Trail des Cadoles
The Trail des Cadoles is a nature race organized every autumn in Les Riceys, in the Aube department, by the Amicale Laïque des Riceys. The routes wind through the vineyards of the Côte des Bar and pass by the "cadoles"—traditional dry-stone vineyard huts built without mortar, which give the race its name. The start and finish lines are located at the Parc du Château Saint-Louis, by the town hall. Since the inaugural event in 2014, all races have been held on a Saturday in October.
Trail des Cadoles — edition 2026
The Trail des Cadoles returns to Les Riceys on Saturday, October 17, 2026, a date officially listed on the French Athletics Federation's competition calendar. This trail race, organized by the Amicale Laïque des Riceys, winds through the vineyards of the Côte des Bar and passes by the "cadoles"—the traditional dry-stone huts built by winemakers that give the event its name. Specific distances, start times, and 2026 entry fees have not yet been announced.
2026 Edition
The French Athletics Federation calendar lists the Trail des Cadoles in Les Riceys for Saturday, October 17, 2026, as a departmental-level running event. However, the 2026 calendar from the Aube Athletics Committee, updated on August 3, 2026, tentatively lists the race for Sunday, October 18, marked with question marks. The exact date remains to be confirmed by the organizers.
Historically, all eleven documented editions have taken place on a Saturday in October, ranging from October 18, 2014, to October 18, 2025. The 2020 edition was cancelled as the Amicale Laïque des Riceys could not meet the health restrictions imposed by the federation at the time.
As of mid-August, no details regarding distances, start times, or 2026 registration fees have been published, and registration is not yet open on the le-sportif.com platform used in previous years.

A race through the Champagne vineyards
A "cadole" is a dry-stone vineyard hut, built without mortar, many of which can still be found among the vines of the Côte des Bar. The Trail des Cadoles follows the paths that connect these structures, winding through rows of vines, woodlands, and hillsides in the southern part of the Aube department. The courses are hilly: in 2024, the 34 km race featured 850 meters of elevation gain, the 17 km had 460 meters, and the 9 km had 250 meters.
A format that grows every year
The first edition in 2014 featured only a single 20 km distance. From 2015 to 2017, the race offered 15 km and 30 km options, with an 8 km race added in 2018. In 2024, a 13 km Nordic walking event was introduced, and for 2025, the Amicale Laïque des Riceys is hosting seven events: three trail runs of 9, 17, and 34 km, the Nordic walk, an 11 km hike, and two new dog-friendly events, a 10 km cani-trail and an 11 km cani-hike.
The 2020 edition was cancelled: on October 10, 2020, the Aube Athletics Committee released a statement from the organizers, who were unable to meet the health restrictions imposed by the federation at the time.
