Rock in the countryside: "Rural is not dead"
Les Mouillotins is a contemporary music festival founded in 2003 in Cuillé, Mayenne, before moving to Saint-Poix in 2019. Supported by the AMAC association and true to its motto "Rural is not dead", this rural event brings together rock, punk, garage, post-punk, and electro music lovers every year with a demanding program focused on emerging artists and independent scenes. Supported by over 200 volunteers, the festival offers two evenings of open-air concerts and a festive village on Saturday afternoons.
The Les Mouillotins adventure began in 2003 in Cuillé, a small village in southern Mayenne, when a group of music-loving friends decided to organize an open-air concert to liven up their rural area. Driven by AMAC (Association Mouillotins Animation Culture), an association founded in 1992, the initiative grew with each edition, becoming a must-attend event in the Mayenne music scene. In 2019, the festival moved to neighboring Saint-Poix to benefit from a site more suited to its development while remaining true to its rural roots.
Les Mouillotins' musical identity revolves around rock, punk, garage, post-punk, electro, and psychedelic pop. The festival focuses on a bold program mixing emerging artists and recognized bands from the French and international independent scenes. Over the years, Les Mouillotins has hosted bands from Bristol, Los Angeles, Montreal, and Paris and Lyon, affirming a musical openness that extends far beyond the borders of Mayenne. About ten artists and bands perform each year on the festival stage, offering festival-goers two evenings of intense concerts from Friday to Saturday, from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Les Mouillotins relies on the commitment of over 200 volunteers per festival day, who ensure the welcome, catering, security, and logistics of the event. The AMAC association enriches the region throughout the year with cultural and musical activities, including the young audience festival Les Mouillos. The values of conviviality, accessibility, and citizen participation are at the heart of the association's project.
For over eight years, the festival has integrated the principles of sustainable development into its organization: waste management, reusable cups, local catering, and public awareness of environmental issues. This eco-responsible approach makes Les Mouillotins a festival mindful of its impact on the region and the environment.
On Saturday afternoons, the festival site comes alive with a festive village open to all: DJ sets, blind tests, and musical discoveries complement the evening concert program. This friendly and family-oriented time reinforces the popular and open dimension of the event.
The 24th edition of the Les Mouillotins festival is confirmed for 2026 in Saint-Poix. Dates and lineup will be announced soon.
